PREVIEW: Aston Villa vs Birmingham City

A second-city derby is the pick of the Tuesday night fixtures in the Capital One Cup with Birmingham City travelling to local rivals Aston Villa.

Aston Villa needed extra-time against Notts County to reach the third round in a game which saw Scott Sinclair score a hat-trick. Tim Sherwood’s side have won just one other game so far this campaign thanks to a late Rudy Gestede header away at Bournemouth on the opening day of the season. Villa host Birmingham on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to rivals West Brom.

Birmingham City are unbeaten in their last four away games and head to Villa Park in good form with just one defeat in nine games. Two goals from Wes Thomas saw Gary Rowett’s side comfortably beat Gillingham 2-0 in the last round to set up a mouth-watering tie against arch-rivals Aston Villa.
