Alfredo Morelos Transfer Odds - January

Alfredo Morelos's Rangers future has always been a tough one to predict but with Steven Gerrard gone and the ever-present desire of Premier League clubs to get him, the Colombian is now being linked to Newcastle United as one of their first major signings from the Saudi-backed wealth.

It goes without saying that whatever the price and wage which this deal will entail, is not important; the Magpies can literally afford anybody they like. Callum Wilson is their main man up top, but his injuries are always of great concern and he is the only out-and-out striker they have, forcing the club to go in for another forward.

At the same time, Morelos will get as good a wage with Newcastle as he would with most places, and in line with Financial Fair Play, it shouldn't cost the club too much either. All in all, Morelos is 6/1 to join Newcastle and it should be something they strive for with the Colombian relatively cheap compared to most out in this position, while the potential drop to the Championship isn't going to bring in the elite forwards of the world just yet.

Perhaps a surprise inclusion due to the electrifying early season form of Michail Antonio, West Ham are in desperate need of an out-and-out striker with Antonio being the only recognisable centre forward in the squad. Despite having nine goal contributions in eight matches, at 31 years old and having featured in almost every game this campaign, a gaping hole in the form of a backup striker is a clear omission to an otherwise well assembled West Ham squad.

Making their debut in the Europa League and with this extending into the new year, Morelos may prove a useful addition to the squad already having experience at this level. Domestically, bedding in a player like Morelos now, who at 25 still has time to improve, may help shape the hot-headed forward into an adequate backup to main man Antonio with the potential to become the starting striker at the Olympic Stadium in years to come.

In a similar vein to West Ham, local rivals Tottenham Hotspur face the problem that one injury to their star man striker Harry Kane could create a real problem going forward. On top of this, despite his goal against Liverpool, he remains out of form.

Having been faced with this exact problem in the past few seasons, it seems almost mad at this point that there is no notable backup option for the England captain as Spurs fans seem to have been crying out for another striker for years.

After a busy summer in north London, Spurs may be looking for somewhat cheaper options and with Morelos’ contract expiring the year after next, and the Colombian could potentially fill a hole that that may be left if Kane gets his desired move.

A lot of SPFL talents down the past few years have either arrived from France to make a name for themselves or left to clubs like Lyon, such as Moussa Dembele. As of now, at 10/1 to join Lyon and 10/1 to join Lille, Morelos could well make the move to France to play amongst Europe's elite.

Lyon do have Dembele as part of their club and he is in sensational form for the club with four goals in six Ligue 1 games this season. However, after scoring 36 league goals in 82 appearances, he was shipped to Atletico Madrid on loan and time will tell if the move is made permanent. With this in mind, a move for Morelos makes complete sense and we could will see the move happen.

As for Lille, Burak Yilmaz is their man up top and they also have Canadian Jonathan David, who is in sensational form with 11 Ligue 1 goals already. However, a replacement for the 36-year-old Yilmaz is needed.
