QUIZ: Liverpool Record Transfers

QUIZ: Liverpool Record Transfers

Can you name every Liverpool signing over £10 million?

As with all of Europe’s top football leagues, millions of pounds are spent in hopes of clinching the best talent in the sport. Liverpool are one of the most successful teams in all of football, winning England’s top tier eighteen times, scooping eight major European trophies, and claiming a total of fourteen recognised domestic cups.

Every team has had to adapt to changes in how football functions as years have passed, and Liverpool are included in that, spending increasingly larger fees as teams continue to ask for more in order to acquire their most talented players. Liverpool were often known for spending money on underwhelming flops, but we’ve seen more stars coming through the doors at Anfield, with several big-money players forming a part of Jurgen Klopp’s growing team in Merseyside.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of the largest transfers were made in recent years, over £50 million spent once in 2017 and on two occasions in 2018. Over £30 million has been paid for a single incoming player on eleven occasions between 2017 and 2018, but the most recent transfer window saw no signings for the Merseyside club, with it expected to be down to Jurgen Klopp rarely chopping and changing in the middle of the season, instead assessing his situation during the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

Eight of Liverpool’s forty-three transfers priced at £10 million or above were made by Jurgen Klopp.

The transfer fee for incoming Liverpool players has exceeded £10 million on forty-three occasions in the club’s history, including players who went on to become legendary figures for the club, as well as those who are best forgotten. Our latest quiz is based around every single one of those players that were signed for over £10 million, spanning between 1995 and the most recent transfer window.

You’re given a total of six minutes to correctly guess every single player’s name, and we’ve included hints in the form of the year the transfer happened, the fee paid for the player, and the club they were originally signed from. You need to write out the names properly, but notable nicknames and surnames alone will register, so don’t worry about remembering every little detail.
