QUIZ: Chelsea Managers from the Roman Abramovich era

Can you name every Chelsea manager since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003?

Originally founded in 1905, Chelsea Football Club has gone through a lot of change over the years, but none bigger than when Russian billionaire, entrepreneur, businessman and politician Roman Abramovich purchased the club in 2003, running proceedings in a ruthless mentality that left no time for sentiment, and winning all there is to offer at top level football as a result of his once unconventional approach.

As Abramovich officially became the owner of Chelsea FC, previous owner Ken Bates went on to purchase Leeds United, and the Russian’s drastic injection of funds triggered an immense transition at Stamford Bridge. A lot of neutral football fans accused Chelsea of selling their soul in becoming so rich in such a short period of time, but it was hard to argue with the success it brought, leading to world class transfers every summer, and more pieces of silverware than the club had ever achieved in its entire history.

Along with the sudden chopping and changing in terms of players, managers suffered the same fate, with a new manager almost every year since Roman Abramovich became majority share holder in 2003. Chelsea claimed the Premier League five times, the FA Cup five times, the League Cup three times and reached another level in sealing a UEFA Champions League in 2012, as well as two Europa Leagues after 2003, but one aspect which contributed to such a trophy haul was how cut-throat Abramovich had made Chelsea, sacking a manager as soon as things weren’t perfect to see more success under a new man in the hot seat.

Maurizio Sarri Chelsea manager

Maurizio Sarri was never expected to last at Chelsea after falling out of favour with the fans, and it’s a shame considering how he won the Europa League and finished third in the Premier League.

Between permanent managers and caretaker managers, Chelsea have seen fifteen different tenures since 2003, ranging from roaring successes to disappointing flops. The latest managerial departure was Maurizio Sarri, who left the club in June to take over from Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus, setting up yet another opportunity for a manager to try his hand at the almighty task of pleasing critical owner Roman Abramovich.

In an attempt to reflect upon all of the Chelsea managers in control since 2003, we’ve created a quiz where you need to recall every single name within the allotted time.
