Next Doncaster Rovers Manager Odds

Doncaster Rovers are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Gary McSheffrey in the aftermath of their 3-0 loss to Carlisle United at Brunton Park. This defeat left Donny in 12th place, 11 points off top-of-the-table Stevenage with 21 points from 14 matches.

Following Doncaster’s defeat in Cumbria, McSheffrey’s managerial record stands at 14 wins in 46 matches, with eight draws and 24 losses - equating to a win percentage of 30.4%.

Below we have discussed a series of candidates that have been linked to replace the former Coventry City winger.

Sam Hird

Former Barrow AFC and current Bolton Wanderers coach Sam Hird is rumoured to be in the frame for the job,

Hird will be looking to emulate his former colleague at both clubs in Ian Evatt, who famously ended Barrow’s Football League exile in the 2019/20 season. Hird managed Bolton’s reserve team until the end of last season, but, relinquished this role in order to focus on being a first-team coach at the club.

Danny Schofield

Recently sacked Huddersfield Town manager Danny Schofield has been linked with the vacancy at Doncaster.

Despite never playing for Rovers, Schofield is from the local area and will be looking for a second chance in management having struggled with a weak Huddersfield Town side that had sold key players from the side which reached last season’s play-off final.

In nine games as the Terriers permanent manager, Schofield oversaw nine matches, winning once, whilst drawing one and losing his other seven.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is also on the lookout for a new job having been sacked by Burton Albion in September.

The Dutch manager had two spells at Burton, with his first one being between November 2014 until December 2015, winning 33 and drawing 11 of his 54 games in charge, winning League Two in the 2014/15 campaign. His second spell brought less success, winning 35% of his matches in League One between January 2021 and September 2022.

On top of this, Hasselbaink managed QPR from December 2015 until November 2016, but, was sacked after winning just 27% of his games at the Loftus Road club. He also managed Northampton Town just one year later, only managing to win 23.8% of the matches he took charge of.

David Artell

Former Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell is the final manager on this list.

The 41-year-old is without a club following his departure from Gresty Road last season upon Alexandra’s relegation, with that role being his only managerial job to date, having held that role for five years.

During his time as Crewe manager, Artell oversaw their promotion to League One via a second-place finish in League Two in the 2019/20 season. The former Rotherham United defender managed Alexandra 274 times, winning 100 matches and drawing 51, seeing him have a win percentage of 36.5%.
