Everton are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Rafael Benitez off the back of their abysmal 2-1 defeat to Norwich City last weekend, leaving the Toffees in 16th place with just four wins from 19 league matches.
Next Permanent Everton Manager Odds After Benitez

Next Permanent Everton Manager Odds After Benitez
Roberto Martinez Odds: 6/5
Former Everton manager Roberto Martinez has emerged as the surprise bookmakers favourite to become the Toffees’ next manager following the sacking of Benitez.
This won’t surprise fans of the Goodison Park club, as the hierarchy have previously shown that they don’t mind making unpopular decisions, with the appointment of Benitez’s being an obvious example.
The 48-year-old is best known in England for his time at Wigan Athletic where he won the FA Cup with the Latics in 2013 against Manchester City in the final at Wembley, following a stunning late header by Ben Watson.
Following his time at Wigan, he made the move to Everton where he recorded the Toffees' second-highest Premier League finish in his first full season at Goodison Park, managing fifth-place in the 2013/14 season on a limited budget.
However, the Spaniard’s next two campaigns proved to be unsuccessful in his three-year spell at Everton, finishing 11th place in back to back seasons, their lowest finishes since 2005/06, resulting in the 48-year-old being sacked. Despite this, his promising style of play saw the Spaniard go on to prove himself at international level with Belgium, managing a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as well as reaching the quarter-finals at Euro 2020 where his side were knocked out by eventual winners, Italy. Belgium were are also semi-finalists in the Nations League last year.
Duncan Ferguson Odds: 4/1
Everton fan-favourite Duncan Ferguson is rumoured to be in contention to become the club’s next manager.
The 50-year-old is an Everton legend having made 191 appearances as a player for the Goodison Park club, as well as also being part of the 1994/95 team that famously won the FA Cup, which is the Goodison Park club’s last trophy if you discount their 1995 Community Shield win over Blackburn Rovers.
Ferguson has been part of Everton’s first-team coaching staff since February 2014 and has even been the assistant manager to the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez which will have been beneficial experiences for the Scot.
During the 2019/20 season, Ferguson served Everton as an Interim Manager in between the sacking of Marco Silva up to the appointment of Ancelotti, managing one win and three draws in his four matches, with one of these draws being against Manchester United at Old Trafford by a 1-1 scoreline, and his only victory coming in a 3-1 home win over Chelsea.
Ferguson is priced at 4/1 to step up as Everton manager on a permanent basis.
Wayne Rooney Odds: 4/1
Another former Everton player in Wayne Rooney is also rumoured to be in-firm consideration for the job at Everton.
Rooney has a mixed relationship with fans of the Toffees having left them in 2004 when he was just 18 years old to join Manchester United, but, has stated on several occasions that he is a fan of the club that he made 98 league appearances for.
The 36-year-old is currently a manager at Derby County in the Championship and has been since November 2020 following the sacking of Phillip Cocu, managing to keep the Rams in the Championship last campaign on the last day of the season having initially taken over when they were at the bottom of the table.
This season, Derby have been plagued with off the field issues which have seen them have 21 points deducted from their overall tally, as well as transfer embargoes, but, Rooney vowed to fight on and has managed to oversee his side earn 35 points when including their deducted total which would see them currently sit in 11th; to Rooney’s credit, the Pride Park club are now eight points from safety and in contention to survive relegation having been given a nearly impossible task.
Frank Lampard Odds: 7/1
Frank Lampard is also included on this list to become Everton’s next manager.
The 43-year-old has been without a club following his sacking by Chelsea in January 2020 due to a poor run of form that had seen the Blues win just two of their last eight league games under the former Derby County manager over the festive period.
However, following the aftermath of his sacking, there were rumours of the Chelsea transfer team signing players that he wasn’t interested in bringing to the club, which was essentially the downturn in his form at the Bridge, as he managed to finish fourth in the Premier League with them in 2019/20 having had a transfer ban.
This would be a good opportunity for Lampard to showcase his managerial skills once again having proven himself to be capable at this level when in charge of Chelsea, as well as in his time at Derby with what was effectively their last competitive squad to date.
Lampard is priced at 7/1 to become the next permanent manager at Goodison Park.
Graham Potter Odds: 7/1
Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter is also on this list, having impressed during his time at the Amex Stadium.
The Seagulls have had their best-ever start to a Premier League campaign, picking up 28 points from 20 matches, seeing them sit ninth in the table whilst playing an attractive style of football. Brighton were known for creating large amounts of chances last season under Potter, but, their conversion rate didn’t see them pick up the results they deserved, with the same perhaps being said this season, but with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at his disposal, there is potential for Everton to become a good team.
In his time at Swedish Allsvenskan side, Ostersunds, Potter earned two promotions with them and won the Swedish Cup in 2017, earning them qualification for the Europa League the following campaign. His impressive achievements in Sweden saw him then become Swansea manager, where he guided the Swans to a 10th place finish on a limited budget.
Nuno Espirito Santo Odds: 12/1
The final manager on this list is former Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Everton were linked with making a move for Santo last summer before the Portuguese coach decided on moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he was perhaps on the back foot from the start, with the Lilywhites expecting a world-class manager who was capable of coaching attractive football having previously had Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho at the helm.
Santo’s time at Spurs finished after just 17 matches, winning eight times. But, perhaps the Portuguese manager will be valued and rated more on his time at Molineux with Wolverhampton Wanderers here he earned promotion from the Championship in the 2017/18 season, before guiding them to a seventh-place finish in their first Premier League campaign back, qualifying them for the Europa League.
Nuno has been prided on making his side tough to beat, which is what Wolves were in his time at the club during their peak and the 47-year-old will be desperate to bounce back in style which is what Everton could give the former FC Porto goalkeeper the chance to do.
Santo is priced at 12/1 to be Everton’s next permanent manager.
