2018/19 Fantasy Premier League Bargains

The new Premier League season is now just over a fortnight away, which means that it’s time for us to all start pretending we’re Jose Mourinho by picking our Fantasy Football team. Each season we all spend countless hours tinkering with formations and personnel to formulate the perfect squad, in the hope that we can top the pile in our mates league come the end of the season.

We’re all well aware of the key players needed to create a successful Fantasy Premier League side this season, with the likes of David de Gea, Mohamed Salah, Kevin de Bruyne, Harry Kane, and Eden Hazard the obvious names on the team sheet. These elite players cost a lot of money however, therefore it’s impossible to pack your team full of superstars without overstepping your allocated £100million budget.

In our latest blog, we’ve picked out four players (one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder & one striker) that you might want to consider when selecting your team this season. Each of these players cost under £7.5million, so they’re perfect for padding out your team alongside the more expensive recognised players in the division!

Goalkeeper: Łukasz Fabiański – West Ham (£4.5m)

West Ham goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański could be one of the biggest bargains available this season. At a mere £4.5million, the former Arsenal shot stopper is expected to flourish under new manager Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham. The Hammers have spent some serious cash this transfer window, bringing in the likes of Issa Diop from Lazio, Jack Wilshere from Arsenal and Andriy Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund so should be a force to be reckoned with this term. The 33-year-old was arguably Swansea’s best player in a forgettable season at the Liberty Stadium last time out, so in a much stronger side we think he could be in for a terrific campaign this time around. The Polish international’s shot stopping from close range is as good as anybody’s, and with a solid defence in front of him this season he definitely has the potential to pick up plenty of clean sheets, meaning more points for you guys. With Joe Hart returning to Manchester City, Fabiański will be the undisputed first choice keeper at the London Stadium this term, so we would suggest including him in your team if you’re not looking to break the bank on one of the more expensive keepers in the league!

Defence: Harry Maguire – Leicester City (£5.5m)

Leicester defender Harry Maguire was one of England’s standout performers at this summer’s World Cup. The Foxes centre-half started every single game for Gareth Southgate’s men in Russia, bagging a crucial goal against Sweden in the Three Lions quarter-final clash at the beginning of July. The 25-year-old, who stands at a towering 6ft4 has everything you’d want from a centre-back: height, physicality, composure on the ball and superb arial ability. He was a mainstay in Leicester’s back line last season, making 38 appearances whilst scoring two goals in a season where the Foxes finished just above mid table in 9th. The former Sheffield United and Hull City man is rumoured to be heading to Manchester United for a reported £65million before the transfer window closes on August 9th. Jose Mourinho is keen to build his back line around the England international so getting him in your side now would be a wise decision, as his value is likely to rise should he join the Red Devils. Regardless to whether or not Maguire does move to Old Trafford, at his current price of £5.5million, he’s an absolute steal considering his threat from set pieces. Should he make the switch to the North West though, the potential for him to pick up clean sheets on a weekly basis are sure to increase, with one of the worlds best goalkeeper’s behind him in the form of David de Gea.

Midfield: Luka Milivojević – Crystal Palace (£6.5million)

Crystal Palace central midfielder Luka Milivojević was last seasons hidden gem. The Serbian international picked up so many points due to his ability from the 12 yard spot last term. Milivojević scored seven penalties in his second season at Selhurst Park, whilst also netting a further three goals from open play. He also started all but two games for Palace in the Premier League, so will be a guaranteed starter this season in a strong Palace outfit gunning for a top 10 finish. The 27-year-old isn’t afraid of shooting when he’s presented with half a chance from outside the penalty area either; last season he had 42 shots from outside the box so always carries a threat in the oppositions half when his side are on the attack. The only slight downside with Milivojević is his disciplinary record: last term he picked up 8 yellow cards, one of the most out of the whole division, but hopefully this time out he can iron this out of his game. If he can, there’s no doubting that he’d be a fantastic addition to your Fantasy League side at just £6.5million.

Forward: Cenk Tosun – Everton (£7million)

Everton front man Cenk Tosun could be one of the surprise packages in the Premier League this season. Bought from Besiktas for £25million back in January, the Turkish international bagged 5 league goals for the Toffees as Everton finished their turbulent campaign in 8th place. With Wayne Rooney moving to MLS outfit DC United this summer, Tosun will now become the main striker at Goodison Park, and should he display the same form as he did towards the back end of last season then we think he could enjoy a rewarding season this time out. With players like Gylfi Sigurdsson, Yannick Bolasie and recent £40million signing Richarlison at their disposal, Everton have an abundance of attacking talent in their squad this season, making them real contenders for a top six finish. All of the players mentioned above have the ability to create chances from absolutely nothing in that all-important final third, so Tosun won’t go wanting for chances in front of goal, that’s for certain. The likes of Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, Roberto Firmino and Patrick Aubameyang are the obvious choices up top, but if your budget is running low and you’re looking for that third striker in your for 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 formation this season then we think giving Tosun a chance could well pay off!
