Aaron Mooy: Huddersfield midfielder linked with summer transfer

Could Aaron Mooy be set to leave Huddersfield Town this summer?

Now that Huddersfield Town have been relegated from the Premier League, talk will begin on whether they can keep their best players ahead of next season. Undoubtedly the one player that will attract the most interest from other clubs is their star midfielder, Aaron Mooy.

The Australian was a key player in the Terriers rise from the Championship in the 2016/17 season and has continued his strong performances in the top flight. Despite playing in a weak Premier League team he has still managed to shine individually, with his ball retention and creativity the main strengths in his game.

Odds are already available for how well Huddersfield will do in the Championship next season, but a lot could depend on their summer business and the loss of Mooy would be a huge one. The last time they were in the Championship the Australian was instrumental in dictating the tempo for the Terriers and also contributed with four goals and seven assists.

But which clubs could be chasing his signature in the next transfer window? We have taken a look at the odds to see where bookmakers are predicting his likely destination is.

Aaron Mooy has been crucial to Huddersfield Town in recent seasons.

Newcastle United and West Ham joint-favourites to sign Aaron Mooy

Two clubs are in pole position to sign Mooy according to bookmakers, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

Newcastle could well be in the market for a midfielder given that both Jack Colback and Mohamed Diame are out of contract at St James’ Park this summer. However, things are still up in the air at Newcastle which could potentially affect their transfer business.

Rafa Benitez could still leave the club as he has yet to sign a new deal with the Magpies whilst the club is still under the ownership of Mike Ashley who has been looking to sell. He did though spend £20 million on Miguel Almiron in January, indicating that he may be willing to back the manager this summer, could Mooy be a target?

As for West Ham, they too could be looking for midfield reinforcements this summer. Samir Nasri was signed on a short-term contract in December and is scheduled to leave the London Stadium in July, which will leave a space in their squad for a creative midfield player.

BetVictor are currently offering odds of 3/1 for each club to sign Mooy before 2nd September 2019.

Wolves also interested in Aaron Mooy transfer?

The third favourites in the betting market to sign Aaron Mooy this summer is Wolves, who are priced at 8/1 with BetVictor. The West Midlands outfit have been outstanding in their first season back in the Premier League, they are in pole position to finish seventh and have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

They have lofty ambitions too and want to continue to progress, which is likely to mean they will be heavily involved in the transfer window. Indeed Wolves have already confirmed the £30 million transfer of striker Raul Jimenez following a successful loan spell, could that signal the start of a spending spree at Molineux?

They already have a strong midfield with the likes of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, whilst Leander Dendoncker’s loan will become a permanent transfer too. Whether they will look to further strengthen in that area remains to be seen, but there is no doubting that Mooy would definitely fit into the style of football Wolves play.

Other teams in the market include Leicester, Watford and Crystal Palace who are all 14/1, whilst a controversial move to West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United has also been priced up with odds of 16/1.
