Antoine Griezmann to choose between Inter Milan and Barcelona this summer

Antoine Griezmann to choose between Inter Milan and Barcelona this summer

World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann tipped to leave Atletico Madrid in the next transfer window

One of the biggest stories among last summer’s transfer news was based around Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and whether he would stay at the club or betray fans by joining Barcelona. He eventually caused a fuss for no reason, opting to stay at Atletico Madrid, but there’s been reports emerging that link him back to Barcelona, as well as to Serie A side Inter Milan.

Sources close to the 2018 World Cup winner say that Griezmann has become frustrated by Atletico Madrid’s lowly ambitions, not only unable to fight with Barcelona for the La Liga title in a season where Real Madrid were underwhelming to say the least, but also failing to move past the Champions League Round of 16 after letting a 2-0 lead slip against Juventus.

All of Europe’s top clubs would surely be interested in acquiring the services of Antoine Griezmann, but ties with Inter Milan and Barcelona have been justified recently ahead of all other potential destinations, making it seem as if the Frenchman has three options between joining either club or remaining at Atleti.

Icardi expected to leave, Griezmann could be the perfect replacement at Inter

Through distinctly inferior form to most other seasons in the Serie A and clear issues between him and the club, Mauro Icardi has been set to leave Inter Milan for several weeks, leaving the summer as the next possible opportunity for the Argentine to move elsewhere.

As Internazionale continuously attempt to return to being the dominating side they once were, it was assumed that they’d have to recruit an equally as prolific goalscorer. It only became apparent that Antoine Griezmann could be the man to replace Mauro Icardi after claims from Diego Forlan, who spent time at both clubs.

Speaking to ESPN, thirty-nine-year-old Forlan said: “If [Antoine Griezmann] stayed at Atletico Madrid, he’d become a legend, but Inter will buy him once Icardi is sold.”

It was unforeseen that Griezmann would be closely linked to Inter Milan, especially after his future looked set to be either at Barcelona or Atletico Madrid, but Diego Forlan later claimed that the club told him that Griezmann would be the replacement for Icardi, seeing Sky Bet offer a price as short as 6/1 for the Frenchman to join Inter in the summer.

Many variables could change the outcome of the various ongoing sagas at the San Siro, with Massimiliano Allegri likely to become Inter Milan manager if his troubles at Juventus continue in the same light. Inter Milan are expected for an overhaul, allowing both Icardi and Radja Nainggolan to leave, Ivan Rakitic and Gareth Bale looking like potential incomings.

Antoine Griezmann turned down Barcelona last summer

There’s far less reason for Barcelona to sign Antoine Griezmann after already spending far too much money in recent years, but as he’s proven in La Liga, the forward has become an invaluable player to a club of Barcelona’s level.

From bookmakers offering Antoine Griezmann next club odds, BetVictor, Betfair and Paddy Power provide a surprisingly short 2/1 price for the number 7 to join Barcelona this summer. This is mostly due to how closely linked he was with Barca in the past and how it would be unlikely that a deal doesn’t go ahead if he’s truly changed his mind after previously refusing to sign for them.

Based on their transfer activity, it’s fair to say that Barcelona aren’t in the best place. If they were to bring Antoine Griezmann to the club any time soon, they’d have to move on some players, making up for some extortionate transfer windows with ineffective results.

Both Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho have been seen as glaring errors in Barcelona’s recent transfer strategy, with Ousmane Dembele showing signs of life but Philippe Coutinho being arguably worse in falling down the pecking order at Camp Nou. Dembele is expected to be given more time but Coutinho has had links to Manchester United, leaving enough funds to bid for Antoine Griezmann.

Philippe Coutinho Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho has been a massive disappointment at Barcelona since signing from Liverpool in January 2018.

As for other clubs that are given Antoine Griezmann odds regarding a summer move, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are both as short as 3/1 on BetVictor, and Paris Saint Germain are as short as 15/2 on Paddy Power.

Other clubs such as Chelsea and Juventus are only as short as 12/1 on BetVictor, and Manchester City are priced at 18/1 on Sky Bet.
