Former Chelsea and Juventus manager Antonio Conte has been approached by Real Madrid over his current availability, according to Sky Sports.

Sky are reporting that Conte was contacted by representatives of Real Madrid President Florentino Perez over his current availability in the scenario that the club sack current manager Julen Lopetegui.

Lopetegui has had a rocky start to life as Madrid boss, with his team going on a five match run without a victory before their unconvincing 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The Spaniard only took over from Zinedine Zidane in June after the Frenchman left in the wake of their third straight Champions League success, but is already under intense scrutiny at the Bernabeu. Madrid are currently 7th in the La Liga table and are four points off league leaders Barcelona, who they face this weekend.

The club have confirmed that Lopetegui will remain in charge of the team heading into the derby at the weekend, but defeat could quickly change that altogether.

Perez is believed to be a keen admirer of Conte, who they reportedly approached in the summer with a view to taking over from Zidane, though he insisted on a break from football after his dismissal from Stamford Bridge.

Conte has the Premier League, FA Cup and three La Liga titles on his resume and would be the ninth manager the club have had since the start of 2008 should he replace Lopetegui.
