Aston Villa in for Nathaniel Chalobah and Isaac Hayden

Championship side Aston Villa have made moves to sign Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah and Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden this month.

Both players have been peripheral figures for their respective club sides this season, with Chalonah starting just twice for the Hornets in the Premier League, while Hayden has seven league starts to his name under Rafa Benitez.

It is understood that the Midlands side want to bring in two midfielders on loan until the end of the season as Dean Smith looks to boost his squad ahead of the final 17 league games of the campaign.

At present, Villa sit 10th in the Championship table and are just four points behind Derby County in sixth as they look to get back into the play-off picture, having been beaten finalists at Wembley last term.

They recently sent Yannick Bolasie back to Everton after cutting his loan spell short, which is reportedly now saving them £70,000 a week in wages, which can now be used elsewhere in the squad. The club have had some success in the loan market this year, with Tammy Abraham scoring 19 goals in 23 appearances so far.

Villa are also believed to be interested in taking Ben Gibson from Burnley, but Sean Dyche has told them he is not available for sale.

Earlier this season Chalobah made his full England debut, coming on as a late substitute for the Three Lions in their 3-2 win over Spain in the Nations League, but is unlikely to be in the next squad following a lack of first-team action.

The 24-year-old may have been kept around at Vicarage Road had Abdoulaye Doucoure left the club for Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems the Ligue 1 side have now turned their attentions to Everton’s Idrissa Gueye.

As for Hayden, any possible deal could come down to whether or not the club can secure the signing of Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris on loan until the end of the season. Hayden played the full 90 minutes as Newcastle defeated Manchester City 2-1 at St. James’ Park.
