Aston Villa to sign Tyrone Mings on loan

Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings is expected to complete a loan move to Championship side Aston Villa.

Mings has struggled for first-team football at the Vitality Stadium this season, making just seven appearances in all competitions for the Cherries after falling behind Sergio Rico and Charlie Daniels in the pecking order of left-backs.

The 25-year-old can also play at centre-back, but Nathan Ake, Steve Cook and Simon Francis are all currently blocking his route into the first team.

Mings joined Bournemouth following their promotion to the Premier League in the summer of 2015 for £8m, but an early cruciate ligament injury suffered on his debut left him out of action until January 2017.

Villa are believed to have beaten Championship rivals West Brom and Derby County to Mings’ signature, as last season’s beaten play-off finalists. look to get themselves back into the promotion picture,

Currently, Villa are just four points behind sixth-placed Derby and take on strugglers Reading this weekend in a game they would expect to take three points from.

The Midlands side have been active this month as they look to strengthen their squad, having already completed the signing of Wolves defender Kortney Hause, as well as Croatian international goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic.

The club have also been linked with moves for Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah and Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden this month, with manager Smith wanting to take the pair on loan from their respective clubs.

When asked about the deal, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said: “That maybe one we look at. I need to speak to the people dealing with the respective deals to see where that one stands.”
