Bayern Munich move ahead of Borussia Dortmund in Bundesliga Winner Odds

Bayern Munich’s narrow win over Augsburg puts them as favourites for Bundesliga title

In what has been a lively Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich could cause another shock in overtaking Borussia Dortmund before the term comes to an end. They’ve been trailing Borussia Dortmund for some time – and deservedly so based on the instant impact from Lucien Favre as manager – but bookmakers now see Bayern Munich as favourites for the title, with Betfair offering the best price at odds of 11/10, and most other bookies going as short as 4/5.

The change in Bundesliga winner odds is primarily down to Bayern Munich’s Friday night away win over Augsburg, but it was far from convincing, as they only scraped a 3-2 win. Niko Kovac hasn’t had the best start to life as Bayern Munich manager, and he’s about to be tested again next week in their Champions League Round of 16 tie with Liverpool, playing the first leg away at Anfield.

Bookmakers are set to change the odds on each Bundesliga team’s finishing position, with Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen fighting for a place in the top four, but this exciting turn of events is also happening between the top three, even allowing an outside chance for Borussia Monchengladbach to sneak in on the title if both of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich stumble along the way.

Odds likely to change based on Bayern’s topsy-turvy season

Facing a more than capable Hertha Berlin side in their next league game before playing away to third place Borussia Monchengladbach puts Bayern in a difficult run of games. Their Bundesliga winner odds are expected to change drastically based on the outcome of these fixtures, and a hefty defeat to Liverpool would potentially make a difference, even with it being a match played away from the Bundesliga.

Their usual dominance over the Germany Bundesliga only ever put odds as high as 11/8 for Bayern Munich to win the league this season, but it’s been difficult to dismiss Borussia Dortmund as they’ve looked far more dangerous and, more importantly, a lot more consistent. Niko Kovac previously worked miracles with Eintracht Frankfurt, but the DFB Pokal could be the only piece of silverware he seals this season.

Franck Ribery Bayern Munich

Ageing players like Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben aren’t doing much to help Bayern Munich’s form.

Dortmund once went as short as 7/10 to scoop the title

Arriving from Nice in the summer, Lucien Favre has had a fantastic first season at Borussia Dortmund, pushing the side into the title race, and spending most of the term ahead of Bayern Munich. Their odds once went as short as 7/10 to win the Bundesliga this season, but they’re now given odds of EVENS, with it mostly being down to their current injury record.

All of Marco Reus, Paco Alcacer, Julian Weigl, Lukasz Piszczek and Manuel Akanji are out until around the end of February, which is expected to be the reason for their odds changing with the bookmakers. Dortmund possess a game-in-hand and maintain a two-point lead ahead of Bayern Munich, but even those two factors could be scuppered if injuries continue to hamper their squad, not helped by their midweek Champions League defeat to Spurs.

Marco Reus Borussia Dortmund

Marco Reus has had a stellar season, scoring eighteen goals in all competitions. Unfortunately for Lucien Favre, he’s currently out injured.
