Where will Dani Alves transfer to in the summer?

Dani Alves set for free transfer this summer

Brazilian right back Dani Alves will be on the lookout for a new club this summer after announcing that he will be leaving Paris Saint Germain.

The 36-year-old’s contract with PSG is up at the end of June, and it will not be renewed meaning he will leave after two years in the French capital. He made 73 appearances in total for them, scoring eight goals.

During his time at the club he has helped them win two Ligue 1 titles, the Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and the Trophee des Champions. He was also named in the UNFP Ligue 1 Team of the Year for the 2017/18 season.

In a post on his official Instagram page, Alves said that he always “gave his best” for the Parisians and also thanked his “companions” at the club for making his stay an enjoyable one. He follows goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in leaving PSG on a free transfer this summer, with the former Juventus stopper also set to move on upon the expiry of his contract.

The big question now is what is next for Alves? He looks set to continue his playing career with no mention of retirement, but which club will he go to? We have taken a look at the bookmakers odds to see what potential destinations he could end up at.

Odds suggest a move to China or Barcelona for Dani Alves

According to the bookmakers, a move to China could be on the cards. Indeed Sky Bet are offering odds of 7/2 for the Brazilian to move to any club from the Chinese Super League, which is the joint shortest price available on the market.

This is not the first time that Alves has been linked with a move to China. In 2017 whilst he was at Juventus there were several rumours linking him to the Super League, with Tianjin Quanjian, Hebei Fortune and Shanghai SIPG all said to have been interested in acquiring his services.

Whether any of those three clubs will rekindle their interest now that he is available is unclear.

But bookmakers believe that a move to China is quite likely for him, as is a return to Barcelona which is also priced at odds of 7/2.

The 36-year-old spent eight years with the Catalan club between 2008-16 and was hugely successful whilst there. Indeed he helped them win six La Liga titles and three Champions League’s whilst at the Nou Camp and reports suggest that he is desperate to return and finish his career with the club.

However, it is thought that the La Liga giants are not considering making an offer to the player which makes a deal unlikely. They are currently well stocked in terms of right backs with both Sergi Roberto and Nelson Samedo at the club, and with the pair being significantly younger than Alves manager Ernesto Valverde is not interested in bringing him back.

Inter Milan linked with Dani Alves transfer

Another team that has been linked with a move for Alves is Inter Milan, with Sky Bet offering odds of 5/1 for him to move to the Serie A club.

With Antonio Conte having taken over at the San Siro this summer, it is expected that he will try to implement the 3-5-2 formation which was so successful for him at Chelsea. And with that in mind, he could look to Alves to play the right wing-back position in that formation.

There is no doubt that the Brazilian is an excellent attacking full-back, he even spent time at PSG playing in a more advanced position. With the Nerazzurri set for another season in the Champions League, Alves would also provide them with vital experience in European football’s top club competition.
