Devoted Hemel Hempstead fan travels over 400 miles for every home game with his guide dog

Colin Perreira and guide dog Sid go above and beyond to watch beloved team in the sixth-tier of English football

Hemel Hempstead supporter Colin Perreira could quite possibly the most devoted football fan in England.

The 23-year-old, who is partially sighted, requires assistance from a guide dog to get around, but that doesn’t stop him from making the 440-mile round trip to watch his side in the National League South each week.

Perreira, who was born and raised in Hertfordshire is currently studying International Tourism Management at the University of Plymouth, making his weekly 5 and a half hour journey to Hemel’s Vauxhall Road far from easy.

That doesn’t stop the devoted fan however, as he and his Golden Retriever – Sid attend almost every home game, whether it be on a Saturday afternoon or a Tuesday evening.

In order to get to the ground in time for a Saturday game, Colin and Sid usually set off on the Friday and stay overnight at his dads house, before attending the match the following day.

If it’s a midweek game, the duo aim to leave Plymouth at around 11am, arriving in London for about 2pm.

The student then travels through the capital to Hertfordshire via a sequence of underground trains and taxi’s or buses, ensuring he gets to the pub near the ground with plenty of time to spare for a few drinks with fellow supporters.

Colin and Sid then aim to arrive at the stadium for about 30 minutes prior to kick-off to get a good spot behind whichever goal ‘The Tudors’ are attacking.

Although the 23-year-old can only see as far as the 18-yard line, Colin uses binoculars to help him see the ball when it is at the other end of the pitch so he doesn’t miss a thing.

As for Sid, he remains occupied with the toys, food and blanket his dad packed for him before leaving.

What an inspiration these two are!
