Everton’s Marco Silva now 4/1 to be next Premier League manager to leave their post

It was yet another tough evening for Marco Silva on Saturday, as he saw his Everton side knocked out of the FA Cup by Millwall at The Den.

An inability to defend set-pieces mixed with an element of bad fortune cost the Toffees deerly in the match, as they were defeated 3-2 by their Championship opponents in a hugely disappointing result.

As such, Everton’s season is effectively over before the beginning of August, having been eliminated from both cup competitions and sit 11th in the Premier League table, 14 points off a place in the top six.

It’s fair to say they have performed below expectations this term, with many supporters being hopeful at the start of the season that Silva could take the team to the next level after a frustrating spell for Sam Allardyce.

Two weeks ago, he was 33/1 with Paddy Power to be the next Premier League manager to leave, but has since fallen to 3/1 with the same bookmaker, being best-priced at the time of writing at 4/1 with BetVictor.

Everton are yet to bring in any new faces this month either, with Silva spending nearly £90m in the summer on bringing in new recruits, albeit without the desired results. The Toffees have won just two of their last 10 games in the Premier League, with their season appearing to really fall apart after Divock Origi’s late winner against them at Anfield in the Merseyside Derby.

Leicester City’s Claude Puel remains the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job, with BetVictor having the Frenchman at 1/1 after a tough spell for the Foxes in recent weeks.

They are the two overwhelming favourites at present, with Maurizio Sarri (14/1), Neil Warnock (16/1), Rafa Benitez (20/1) and Sean Dyche (25/1) remaining the closer outsiders.

Silva is the fifth man to have been in the dugout for Everton since David Moyes’ departure for Manchester United in 2015, with Roberto Martinez, Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth – twice as a caretaker – and Allardyce also having spells at Goodison Park.
