FA Cup Winner Odds Revealed

Who do you think will go the distance

Ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup third action, we’ve analysed some of the favourites to go the distance in this year’s competition, alongside some outsider shouts we feel could cause an upset this time around.

The Favourites

Current favourites to win this season’s FA Cup are Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s men are always strong candidates to win silverware, with a squad jam-packed full of real quality. Currently second in the Premier League, the Cityzens priorities will lie in both the league and Champions League, however with players such as Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus all struggling to nail down consistent playing time in the Premier League so far this season, they’ll be expected to feature heavily in the FA Cup, starting this weekend against Championship outfit Rotherham United. Forgotten man Kevin de Bruyne, who is arguably City’s best player, will also be given a run out in this competition as Guardiola looks to nurse him back to full fitness and integrate him back into the first team squad for the remainder of the campaign. This will obviously give the Sky Blues a huge boost and make them an even bigger force to be reckoned with this season.

The Experts

The FA Cup’s most successful club, Arsenal, have won this competition an astonishing 13 times throughout their history and are always a solid bet when picking an outright winner. The Gunners have fallen short of the quality required to mount a genuine challenge for the Premier League title over the past decade, and have had little luck in the Champions League in recent seasons so prioritise the FA Cup as a competition they can claim some much-needed silverware in. The North Londoners have lifted the trophy three times in the past five seasons, so know exactly what it takes to be successful in England’s oldest knockout competition. With a favourable tie against League One side Blackpool tomorrow, it’s expected that Unai Emery’s side will progress through to the next round without too many complications, making them a solid bet to go far this season.

The Surprise Package?

Marco Silva’s Everton could be the surprise package in this seasons FA Cup. With an appealing first round tie against League Two side Lincoln tomorrow, it’s more than likely that we’ll see them progress through to the fourth round come the end of the weekend. The Toffees won’t be facing a relegation battle in the Premier League and it’s also unlikely that they’ll mount a serious challenge for the Europa League with sides like Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal looking set to claim those spaces this time out. This means that they can focus on the FA Cup and stake a claim to win some silverware for the first time in over 20 years. The Blues last won the FA Cup back in 1994/95, can they repeat history this season? At odds of 23/1, we think they could perhaps be a shrewd bet.

The Rank Outsiders

2015/16 finalists Crystal Palace could well mount a challenge for FA Cup supremacy this season. The Eagles face League Two strugglers Grimsby Town in their opening third round tie tomorrow on home soil, so it’s extremely likely they’ll make it through to the fourth round at the end of January. With players like Wilfried Zaha, who can completely flip a game on its head at their disposal, Roy Hodgson’s men could quietly stake a real challenge this season, especially if they manage to overcome the Mariners tomorrow and draw another favourable tie in the next round later this month. Other sides may field weakened sides in the FA Cup, and it’s likely that Palace will against Grimsby, however should they progress further tomorrow then there’s no doubt that Hodgson will take this competition seriously and bring out the big guns in their quest for silverware. At huge odds of 66/1, the South Londoners could be worth a couple of quid.
