Bayern Munich have fined winger Franck Ribery, following an extraordinary Twitter rant from the 35-year-old.

Ribery recently posted a video of himself alongside Turkish celebrity chef Nusret Gokce at a restaurant in Dubai, which saw the former France international enjoy a steak that was covered in gold.

He received widespread criticism for the posts, leading to some angry, profanity-laden responses that have forced the club’s hand in charging the player.

Bayern Munich Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic told reporters: “He used words that we… cannot accept and that Franck does not have the right to use, as a role model and player.

“I had a long talk with Franck and I let him know that we would impose a heavy fine on him and he accepted it.”

“My success is, above all, thanks to God, me, and my loved ones who believed in me,” Ribery said in one posts, also adding that the criticism was born out of “jealousy” and that he had no time for “haters”.

The criticism comes following reports of food shortages in Turkey, though Ribery has been quick to point out the charity work he has done in the past. One charitable act includes a generous donation of 150 000 € that helped fund 10 schools in Syria.
