Gonzalo Higuain on the verge of joining Chelsea

Chelsea are on the brink of signing Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain, that’s according to Spanish news outlet Marca.

The 31-year-old is currently contracted to Juventus, but has spent the first half of the season on loan at their Serie A rivals AC Milan. The latter also have a clause in his loan which means their are obligated to pay £32 million for him in the summer, but it is believed that Chelsea will assume his loan and will now pay the transfer fee at the end of the campaign. The Blues will also take on the striker’s £140,000 a week pay packet.

Odds on the former Real Madrid man joining the Stamford Bridge outfit have been slashed amid the reports, with Sky Bet now pricing him at 1/5 to make the move before the end of the current transfer window. However, it is thought that the move could be completed as early as this week with Higuain rumoured to have already said yes to a move to the Blues.

Despite scoring six times in 15 appearances for Milan it is thought that he has struggled to settle in at the club. And their sporting director Leonardo even said recently that he needs to “take on responsibility” and “get to work” despite his lull in form.

Gonzalo Higuain has spent the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign on loan at AC Milan from Juventus.

The move would see Higuain reunited with former manager Maurizio Sarri whom he worked under during his time at Napoli. It was under Sarri when the Argentine had his most prolific season in his career, netting 38 times in 42 matches in all competitions in the 2015/16 campaign.

He has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career, netting 237 goal in 423 league appearances all told. He has had a double figure goals tally in every campaign since the 2008/09 season and has represented some of the biggest clubs in Europe. He has also played 75 times for Argentina where he also has a solid goals ratio, bagging 31 times including a hat-trick against South Korea in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Higuain’s arrival could be the catalyst for another transfer too, with Alvaro Morata rumoured to be on his way out of the West London club. The Spaniard has really struggled since arriving at Stamford Bridge, netting just 24 times in 72 appearances at the club. Reports are linking him with a move to Sevilla, and after being left out of the squad for their Carabao Cup semi-final match against Tottenham Hotspur last night he has been cut to 6/4 to join the La Liga outfit.
