Harry Redknapp has become the highest-paid I’m a Celebrity.. Get Me Out Of Here! contestant of all time.

The former Tottenham manager, who over a 35-year long career in the dugout also took control of Bournemouth, West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton, QPR & Birmingham City, will reportedly pocket half a million pounds for his stint on the popular TV show this year, according to ITV show Lorraine.

British boxer Amir Khan reportedly made £400,000 last year during his tenure in the Australian jungle, but Redknapp’s £500,000 now makes him the highest paid contestant in the history of the hit reality program.

The show kicked off last night, with the ten contestants all meeting each other for the first time before entering the jungle via a tough challenge, which saw Redknapp’s team come out victorious in.

The 71-year-old seems to have won over some new fans after just one episode, especially following his joke about Newcastle United’s current situation.

Redknapp, who was motivating his team – which included TV presenter Nick Knowles and actors John Barrowman and Sair Khan – prior to last night’s opening challenge, made a jibe at the North East club, saying:

“Nah, I think they’re well motivated this lot. I think they’re more motivated than your team, Newcastle.” to presenter and Magpies fan Declan Donnelly.

“Don’t start!” Dec replied, whilst laughing. “Anyway, let’s move on!”

Of course, Twitter latched onto Redknapp’s comments, with Newcastle’s fiercest rivals Sunderland having a dig at them:

This light-hearted bit of banter then started a bitter feud between fans of the two clubs, with hundreds of comments pouring in below Sunderland’s tweet. Was only a joke lads..
