Jadon Sancho priced at 1/4 to stay with Borussia Dortmund this summer

When the end of the season arrives and the transfer window opens, Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho will be on the wishlist of many clubs across Europe as they look to strengthen ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The 18-year-old has been a revelation at Dortmund since completing an £8m move to the club from Manchester City last summer, instantly being ingratiated in the first team – something Pep Guardiola could not offer.

It was a bold decision to say the least, but one that is certainly paying dividends now with Sancho reaping the rewards from taking a leap from outside of his comfort zone. He has become something of a trailblazer for young British players to move abroad, with Ademola Lookman, Reece Oxford, Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith-Rowe all having spells in Germany.

On Wednesday night he played his first professional club game in England when Dortmund faced Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, putting in a lively performance on the wing despite the 3-0 defeat his team ultimately suffered.

It reinforced the fact that this is one of the most exciting and talented prospects to have come through the academy systems in England for some time, having moved from Watford to City for £500,000 back in 2015.

Could he return to England?

One or two may have raised their eyebrows when hearing that a 17-year-old without a first-team appearance to his name was going to move for £8m in 2017, but those aware of Sancho’s talents won’t have flinched at such a fee.

He has been touted for some time as a player to look out for, having been one of three players that were supposed to be fast tracked into City’s first team, only for a dispute over his playing time at the club leading to him moving on.

After such an impressive spell in the Bundesliga it’s only natural for English sides to eye a move for one of the country’s biggest prospects as they look to fill Premier League homegrown quotas.

The team linked most heavily with a move for Sancho is Manchester United, as they look to rebuild most likely under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Solskjaer has already shown his preference for quick attacking play, using players with pace in his front line that have left Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata on the bench.

Sancho would certainly suit the style of play that Solskjaer is looking to bring back to Old Trafford, but the current odds of him moving to the red side of Manchester aren’t currently in their favour. The winger is priced at 9/1 to join United with Paddy Power.

That is because Dortmund are overwhelming favourites to have Sancho as their own player come the end of the summer, currently being 1/4 to keep hold of him heading into next season.

It may well ultimately leave other Premier League clubs disappointed too, with Manchester City next in line at 16/1 to re-sign the player who they let go for just £8m less than two years ago. City have a buy-back clause for Sancho, meaning that if they match any offer Dortmund receive for the player that they will get first refusal on the player

Sancho also recently revealed that he was a Chelsea supporter growing up, something that may well give them hope of potentially signing him next summer if they can pull on his emotional strings. The Blues should have something of a warchest next summer too if Eden Hazard makes his anticipated move to Real Madrid, though Paddy Power aren’t too optimistic of Chelsea’s chances, pricing him at 33/1 to go to Stamford Bridge.

Other Premier League rivals are even further out in the betting market, with Liverpool (33/1), Tottenham (40/1) and Arsenal (50/1) all outsiders.
