Jamie Vardy Leads PL Golden Boot Race

Jamie Vardy Leads PL Golden Boot Race

It’s fair to say that the Premier League is currently blessed with some of Europe’s finest attacking talent.

With fourteen games down, we already have three players on double digits for the season, with plenty of other names bordering closely on this landmark. Such early-season form from the league’s attackers has made the race for the golden boot an intriguing one to follow, so we’ve decided to look into SkyBet’s market for the award.

Take a read of the frontrunners below.

Odds slashed on Vardy to win

Currently sitting on-top of the pile of the top scorer’s list is no other than Jamie Vardy. The Englishman has been at the forefront of Leicester City’s exhilarating start to the season, registering thirteen goals in fourteen games.

Such form has inevitably seen Vardy’s odds be slashed to as short as 5/2 to win the golden boot, as he is currently three ahead of anybody else in the league. The Leicester forward was originally considered a huge underdog to be the PL top scorer this season, with SkyBet giving him a huge 40/1 shot of being so back in September.

After scoring in six successive games though, Vardy is now very much in the front-running to win the award, with SkyBet and the majority of other bookmakers making him the favourite to do just that. At 5/2, there is still value to be found in the Foxes’ talisman, but this will come down to whether the club can maintain their exciting form for the remainder of the season.

There has been very little to suggest that Leicester’s recent run will soon come to an end, but this is perhaps the only doubt we can shed on Vardy winning the golden boot.

Kane still being heavily favoured

Despite being six goals behind Vardy, Harry Kane has still been given a relatively short price of 5/1 to win the award. These odds have stayed rather consistent during the opening stages of this season, as the Englishman has made a steady start to the campaign so far. He may not have set the world alight, but with seven goals in thirteen appearances, it’s clear that his name will be near the top end of the rankings, as usual.

Particularly following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, Spurs have looked a little more energetic in their build-up play, scoring ten goals in their three games with the Portuguese coach in charge. Kane has found his name on the score-sheet on three occasions in that time, with favourable fixtures coming up for the club over the Christmas period too.

Over the course of the season, the Englishman is a forward that can never be ruled out of a hot goal-scoring streak, and we expect punters to still fancy the Tottenham striker to go all the way.

Aguero and Aubameyang ones to watch?

Since arriving in England, no player in the league has scored more than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese international has simply been sensational for the Gunners this season, having already hit double digits following a brace at Carrow Road on Sunday.

At 11/2, his large price might surprise a few, as there is some big value in the in-form forward. As mentioned, no other player in the division has scored more than Aubameyang since he joined in January 2018, so the stats are there to justify selecting the Arsenal man.

Going a little larger than 11/2 now, and Aguero’s name pops up at 7/1. Manchester City’s greatest ever-goalscorer is certainly a player that can never be ruled out of contention, it just simply depends on whether he can stay fit. With nine goals in twelve games, the Argentinian actually has the best goals to minute ratio from those at the top end of the goalscoring rankings, but this tends to be a familiar story with the City striker.

Agüero has just recently been ruled out of the club’s next two games, time where his competition can not only close the gap on himself, but extend their lead on him too. If he was guaranteed to be fit throughout the entire season, the striker would undoubtedly be the favourite for the golden boot year on year, but his injury history is something to be considered in this betting market.

Outside shouts

Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane shared the award with Aubameyang last season, and the two Liverpool frontmen have been given an equal chance of 8/1 to get their hands on it for a second successive time. Mane is the man currently ahead in the race between the two, with an impressive record of eight goals in fourteen games so far. Salah is closely behind with six, but that is someway off the current leader Vardy.

Tammy Abraham may be fancied by a few, as he is just one of the three names in the league to hit the double-digit mark. The Englishman has rightly been gaining all the praise so far this season, starring in Frank Lampard’s young and energetic side, looking very confident in-front of goal. With ten goals in his opening thirteen games, Abraham has arguably been the biggest surprise package in the league, with his market drop epitomising such.

At the start of the season, the 22-year-old was as big as 66/1 to win the golden boot, so to even be in consideration can be considered a huge success for the developing forward.
