Jose Mourinho Betting Specials

In undoubtedly the biggest football news of the season so far, Jose Mourinho has been appointed the manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

For both Spurs fans and the neutrals, we aren’t sure that the story has even quite sunk in yet. Seeing the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss in charge of the North London club is reminiscent to something on Football Manager, but it has happened, and Mourinho is keen to be a success.

All the headlines and stories are inevitably now focusing on the Special One’s return, with SkyBet opening up a Jose Mourinho specials market. We’ve taken a look into some of the prices on show.

Tottenham to win a major trophy 2020/21 – 2/1

(Major trophy is Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup or EFL Cup)

With a trophy cabinet filled with over 15 major honours, it’s fair to say that Mourinho has accumulated a reputation for being a serial winner. His demeanour, attitude and philosophy to the game is simply all about winning, whether it be pretty or ugly. Such a mindset has seen the Portuguese manager get his hands on a major trophy whether he has been, ranging from league titles to domestic medals, all the way to the top European awards that the game has to offer.

Trophies will no doubt be the measure of success for Mourinho at Spurs, as the club have not won a piece of silverware since 2008. In that time, Tottenham have progressed and improved, but such a factor continues to dampen their recent development. In fact, this was the inevitable downfall for Mauricio Pochettino. Can Mourinho be their saviour and take the club up a level up to winning ways? SkyBet have them down at 2/1 to win a major trophy before the end of the 2020/21 season.

Such a price holds decent value, as many are tipping Jose to be the man to end Tottenham’s trophy drought. When you take into consideration that this market includes either the FA Cup or League Cup, SkyBet’s odds do look promising. Mourinho has won the latter on four separate occasions, whilst also winning the FA Cup once back in 2007. The 56-year-old tends to field strong teams in such competitions and he may look at this season’s FA Cup campaign as a strong platform to deliver some early success at his new club.

Fancy Mourinho to deliver straight away? Tottenham are 5/1 to win a major trophy this season.

Remain unbeaten in PL until Christmas Day – 4/1

PL fixtures: West Ham (A), Bournemouth (H), Man United (A), Burnley (H), Wolves (A), Chelsea (H).

Wherever Mourinho has managed, he always demanded a fast start from his players. From the off, the former Champions League winner will be expecting a high intensity from this lively Spurs squad, with West Ham away being his first fixture to go at. The Hammers are currently struggling at the bottom end of the table, having not won a league game in five. Inevitably, Tottenham arrive at the London Stadium as clear favourites at 3/4.

Looking beyond just Jose’s opening fixture though and SkyBet have the team at 4/1 to go unbeaten until Christmas Day. The club have six PL fixtures in that time, including an intriguing away day at Manchester United. This looks to be the potential game to let this market down, as they have lost five of their last six trips to Old Trafford. Mourinho will undoubtedly be keen to get one over on his old club though, so some optimistic fans may fancy this 4/1 price. With Chelsea at home and also Wolves away also included, it is a big ask.

SkyBet are also offering 25/1 on Mourinho to win his opening five PL games as Spurs manager.

Tottenham to finish inside top four – 10/3

Although we have stated that Mourinho’s success will be measured by trophies during his time in North London, he does also face the task of trying to finish inside the top four. It already looks to be an uphill job to do so this season, with Spurs currently being eleven points behind fourth placed Manchester City. If we consider the latter and Liverpool to be guarantees for an automatic place for the CL next year, that leaves just two places up for grabs for clubs to fight for.

Both Leicester City and Chelsea are currently the favourites to occupy such positions, as both sides have made a blistering start to the season. The Foxes are currently flying under the leadership of Brendan Rodgers and Frank Lampard has a made an equally dream start with the Blues, with both managers respectively gaining twenty-six points from their opening twelve league fixtures in the new campaign. There is plenty of ground to make up for Mourinho’s men, hence SkyBet’s big price of 10/3.

Making up eleven points would require Spurs to capitalise on at least four defeats – is it too much to ask?
