Lifelong Notts County fan, 94, fulfils dream by taking a penalty at Meadow Lane

Dementia patient Roy Prentice, who has supported Notts County for 94 years fulfilled his lifetime dream on Saturday by taking a penalty at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies mega-fan, formerly of Chilwell, was invited by the club to take a half-time spot-kick in their 2-1 win over Crewe on Saturday.

The retired engineer took two penalties, initially missing the first one, but made no mistake by rolling the second past the helpless keeper between the sticks.

Mr Prentice has been staying at the Landermeads Care Home in Chilwell since being diagnosed with Dementia in 2017 and has attended matches throughout his whole life. He told staff at the care home that it had always been his dream to score at Meadow Lane.

Roy’s son, Jeff Prentice flew all the way from Spain, where he runs a bar to witness his dad score at the weekend.

“To see dad scoring at Notts County was brilliant, well worth the flight from Spain to see it happen,” he said.

The place erupted as soon as the ball trickled over the line, bringing a smile to everyone’s face. Have a look yourself below!
