When Manchester United originally drew Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League last month, very few gave them even a fighting chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.

Facing one of the top sides in Europe, United were huge underdogs, having fallen to a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League a day before. However, Jose Mourinho was sacked the following day and was later that week replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

What has happened next has been well documented, with the Norwegian since guiding the team to eight successive wins in all competitions, also defeating both Tottenham and Arsenal away from home in the process.

Now, there appears to be some hope for them in the European tie, with the team still having both the Champions League and FA Cup to go for on the trophy front this season.

Their hopes have since been boosted even further in recent hours, with PSG boss Thomas Tuchel revealing that their star man Neymar is doubtful for the first leg due to a metatarsal injury picked up last week.

On the injury, Tuchel told L’Equipe: “It’s going to be very difficult, that is clear.

“I do not have confirmation of a new diagnosis. As I explained, it’s too early to talk about a return date.

“We have to wait for the first week, which is very important, and its reaction to treatment. Only after that can we be more precise, but it’s going to be very difficult [for the United match].

“It is not a secret.”

When the draw was first made, United were 3/1 outsiders to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition, but have since dropped to as short as 13/8 with Bet365, SkyBet and BetVictor to progress. They are still best-priced at 2/1 with both Betfair and Paddy Power.

As for PSG, they remain the odds-on favourites to progress over the two legs at 4/9, with the bookies still feeling that a frontline that should feature Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria will be enough to see off United.
