Will Mason Mount transfer away from Chelsea this summer?

It looks set to be an interesting summer for Mason Mount, as he looks for the best way to progress his fledgling career.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in English football last year, scoring 11 goals and racking up five assists from midfield whilst on loan at Derby County. That came on the back of a good season in the Eredivisie with Vitesse, and he is likely to now want to test himself in the Premier League in the 2019/20 campaign.

His parent club is of course Chelsea, a club which is not renowned for giving their young players a chance in the first team. With the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all ahead of him in the pecking order, it could be that he finds his opportunities limited at the Blues and therefore considers another move away to get more minutes under his belt.

But if he does choose to leave Stamford Bridge, where would he go?

West Ham favourites to sign Mason Mount

If Mount does choose to leave Chelsea, whether it is on loan or permanently, then the bookmakers think that West Ham United is the young midfielder’s most likely destination.

The Hammers are looking to build on a solid first season under former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, and may see Mount as a player who would improve them in the middle of the park. It would also see the 20-year-old reunited with Declan Rice, a player who he played alongside Mount during their youth team days at Stamford Bridge.

Moving to West Ham may also appeal to Mount too as it would give him a better opportunity of playing first team football, which in turn would boost his chances of playing for the England senior team. He of course received his first ever call-up from Gareth Southgate in September 2018, but did not make the next three squads after that.

Playing regular Premier League football would certainly aid his chances of being called up again this season, and with Euro 2020 to come at the end of the season that will make him even keener to get regular top flight minutes under his belt.

Sky Bet are offering odds of 4/1 for Mount to move to the London Stadium this summer.

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini will be looking to improve his squad this summer, is Mason Mount a name on his wish list?

Could Mount stay at Chelsea if they hire Frank Lampard?

It is of course not beyond the realms of possiblity that the midfielder could remain at Chelsea next season. One reason for this is that they could be set to hire Frank Lampard as manager, with Maurizio Sarri set to leave for Juventus.

Lampard showed great faith in Mount at Derby last season and made him one of their key players. Many people have likened the youngsters game to the Chelsea great, and if he is appointed as the new manager of the Blues he could choose to keep hold of him and help to develop his game further by giving him a chance in the first team.

There is also the impending transfer ban which could influence Chelsea’s decision whether or not to allow Mount to leave this summer. As it stands the Blues will be unable to sign any new players until after January 2020, which means that they may be forced to give some of their younger players a chance as they are unable to bring anyone else in.

With Mateo Kovacic having now returned to Real Madrid following his loan spell, and with Loftus-Cheek facing a length spell on the sidelines, there may actually be an opportunity for Mount to force his way into the starting line-up in the upcoming campaign.
