Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino once again cut in price to become next Manchester United manager

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was put in charge of Manchester United on a permanent basis just a few short weeks ago, an absolutely abysmal run of form has left the club out of the Champions League for next season, with Europa League football as their only consolation, and a squad full of seemingly disinterested individuals rather than anything resembling a team.

A previously appetising decision to put the former player in charge, the possibility of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaving Manchester United saw a distinct price cut, and this has moved a former favourite for the Man United job back into pole position.

Originally the man expected to become next Manchester United manager in the summer regardless of whether or not they kept hold of Jose Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino has proven his worth at both Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, only bolstering claims for the job.

He’s now returned as the shortest priced option to take on the role through such poor performances for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Spurs fans once again needing to hold their breath as they await confirmation over Mauricio Pochettino’s intentions for next season.

Growing a young and exciting Tottenham Hotspur team that’s capable of challenging for the title has made it impossible to ignore the capabilities of Mauricio Pochettino, who this week leads out his Spurs side to a Champions League semi-final which could still see qualification to the final.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur failed to win at the weekend – Man United drawing 1-1 with already-relegated Huddersfield Town and Spurs losing with nine men against Bournemouth – but it hasn’t affected chances of Mauricio Pochettino claiming the role as Manchester United manager after previous results left his side only as low as fourth in the Premier League.

Due to incoming transfers being few and far between at Spurs and reports of financial profit being more important than genuine success, Mauricio Pochettino has become a regular name to feature in most club’s manager odds. He’s spent a lot of time as favourite for next AC Milan manager if Gennaro Gattuso were to leave, and based on his stock throughout Europe, Manchester United could miss out on acquiring the Argentine if they spend too long allowing extra time to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Unfortunately for Manchester United, they need to persevere with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer into next season after appointing him on a permanent basis before the season ended, handing him a three-year deal. If he remained as caretaker manager as first planned, they would be in a better position to make a more calculated decision in the summer, but they now need to invest with Ole at the wheel in hopes that he can go back to being the shrewd choice he was when he was first brought in following the departure of Jose Mourinho.
