Neal Maupay transfer odds: Brighton favourites to sign Brentford striker

Odds suggest Neal Maupay could transfer to Brighton

Neal Maupay is a wanted man this summer, with plenty of Premier League clubs chasing the Brentford striker’s signature.

He enjoyed an outstanding season in the Championship last season, netting 25 goals and picking up eight assists in just 43 league appearances for the Bees. That form has led to him being one of the most sought after second tier players and it seems that a battle to sign him could be on the cards this transfer window with at least three top flight clubs interested.

One of those sides look to be Brighton & Hove Albion, who are set to embark on their third straight season in the Premier League. The Seagulls, now under the management of Graham Potter, already have quite a few strikers on their books but most of them have been far from clinical.

Whilst Glenn Murray has pulled his weight, bagging 13 league goals last term, he is set to turn 36 in September and they cannot rely on him forever. Meanwhile their other strikers; Jurgen Locadia, Florin Andone and Alireza Jahanbakhsh managed just five between them so with that in mind it is no surprise that they are interested in Maupay.

Sky Bet have Brighton as the favourites to sign the Frenchman at the time of writing, offering odds of 10/11 for him to complete a move to the AMEX this summer. Those odds have shortened significantly in the last few days too, dropping from 8/1.

Aston Villa and Sheffield United also interested in Maupay transfer

Aston Villa have certainly splashed the cash on their return to the Premier League, spending big bucks on the likes of Tyrone Mings, Wesley Moraes and Ezri Konsa. In total they have already forked out in excess of £70 million for new players, but it doesn’t look like the spending is done yet and their next target could well be Maupay.

There have been consistent rumours throughout the summer linking the two parties together. But it looked as though there hopes of getting a deal over the line were fading amidst reports that Dean Smith didn’t want to pay big money for another striker following the arrival of Wesley. As a result, their odds to sign the 22-year-old had drifted out to 5/1 by the 9th July.

But since the player was given time off by Brentford amid uncertainty about his future, those odds have been slashed back down to 5/2 which makes Villa the second favourites to secure his signature. He is a player Smith knows well from their time together at Griffin Park, could they reunite at Villa Park?

Sheffield United are also thought to be keen on Maupay, with Chris Wilder looking to bolster his squad ahead of their first season back in the top flight since 2006/07. It is well known that the South Yorkshire club wish to add a new striker to their ranks, and they have been linked with several names including Charlie Austin at Southampton and Swansea City’s Oliver McBurnie.

But Maupay appears to be their number one target, they have been reportedly been interested in the former Nice striker throughout the off-season and their odds to sign him were as short as 1/4 at one point.

That has since drifted to 4/1, but with the Blades having had a £15 million bid for McBurnie rejected they may now make Maupay their sole focus.
