Oli McBurnie transfer odds: Sheffield United favourites to sign Swansea striker

Odds suggest Oliver McBurnie could transfer to Sheffield United

After an excellent season for Swansea City in the Championship last year, Oli McBurnie has become one of the division’s most feared strikers.

The 23-year-old was finally given a chance in the first team at the Liberty Stadium following loan spells at Newport County, Bristol Rovers and Barnsley, and it is fair to say that he repaid the club. Indeed he managed to score 22 goals in 42 Championship appearances for the Welsh club last term as they finished a respectable 10th place.

As a result of his fine performances, the vultures are now circling as clubs in the Premier League look to try and sign the former Bradford City man. The most serious interest looks to be coming from Sheffield United, who are trying to beef their squad up ahead of their first top flight campaign in 13 years.

Having already added Luke Freeman, Phil Jagielka, Callum Robinson and Ravel Morrison to their ranks, the Blades are thought to have £15 million bid for the goalscorer Swansea goalscorer. However that was rejected by the 2013 League Cup winners who want closer to £20 million for the player.

The Swans are in a decent position after tying up a three-year-deal for McBurnie last summer, and it is thought that the player has indicated he will not push for a transfer away from the Liberty Stadium.

Despite this, bookmakers still believe that Sheffield United will get the deal done. Indeed Sky Bet have the Blades odds-on to sign the Scottish international, with a price of 8/11 available at the time of writing.

He is not their only target, with Charlie Austin and Neal Maupay also thought to be targets for the South Yorkshire side.

It is thought that Oliver McBurnie is Chris Wilder’s top target this summer.

Brighton also interested in McBurnie transfer?

The second favourites on the betting market to sign McBurnie are Brighton & Hove Albion, with odds of 8/1 available for him to join the Seagulls.

Albion are another club keen to add a new striker to their ranks this summer. Whilst 35-year-old Glenn Murray managed 15 goals last season, their other strikers all flopped and new manager Graham Potter is keen to bring someone else in to help fire them forward in the Premier League.

McBurnie is a player Potter knows well too, having managed him at Swansea last season. He was the man to get the best out of the Scottish striker and could be keen to link up with him again next season. This could also give them the edge over Sheffield United in the persuit of his signature, as the player could potentially favour following his former manager to the south coast.

They are also keen on Maupay at Brentford too though, and with the Frenchman currently odds-on to arrive at the AMEX this summer. If that deal does go through, it may lead to them cooling their interest in McBurnie.
