PSG favourites to sign Ajax wonderkid Frenkie De Jong

PSG have moved to the front of the queue to sign highly-rated Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong this month.

The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s most-sought after players after bursting onto the scene with the Dutch giants, becoming the latest in a long line of talents to progress through the famed Ajax academy.

Both he and 19-year-old teammate Matthijs de Ligt have attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs and have been a key part of the resurgence of the Dutch national team under Ronald Koeman. They are set to compete in the semi-finals of the Nations League against England in the summer.

de Jong has played in five of Ajax’s six Champions League group stage games so far this season, helping them to progress to the last 16 of the competition where they now face holders Real Madrid in one of the glamour ties of the round. Given the form of Los Blancos this year, Ajax will fancy their chances of causing an upset.

However, they may have to so without the services of one of their star men de Jong, who is now odds-on to move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain this month. Both they, Manchester City and Barcelona were believed to be in the hunt for the Dutch midfielder, but it seems as if the Parisians have won the race to sign him.

Both City and Barcelona were believed to see de Jong as the long-term replacement for their two respective holding midfielders in Fernandinho and Sergio Busquets, but he now looks set to feature alongside the likes of Marco Verratti, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in France.

As of today, de Jong is priced at 4/7 with SkyBet to make the move to Paris this month, missing out on the clash with Real Madrid in the process and the remainder of PSG’s Champions League campaign after already featuring in the competition with Ajax.

Below that, he is then priced at 6/4 to remain with the Eredivisie side until the end of the season. The two next most interested sides in City and Barcelona have drifted out to 16/1.
