Real Betis lead the race to sign Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir

Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir set to join Real Betis

It’s all gone quiet around a possible transfer for Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, and it appears that La Liga side Real Betis have seen this as an opportunity to seal a deal for the player. A shock emerged last summer, as Liverpool were reportedly close to bringing Fekir to Anfield before performing an absolutely massive u-turn in refusing to finalise the deal after his medical presented inaccuracies around his physical condition.

Many assumed that Liverpool would eventually move back into the market for Nabil Fekir in a future window, but with no interest after his failed medical, he remained at Lyon. That was the case until recently, where a massive clear-out at Olympique Lyonnais helped his hopes of moving, as the club was clearly looking to completely change their squad over the summer anyway, making it more likely that he would also be given an opportunity to move elsewhere.

Among notable outgoings, Spurs acquisition Tanguy Ndombele and Real Madrid defensive cover Ferland Mendy are the most recognisable. Fekir would rank alongside these players after presenting himself as being such an exciting player during six years as a professional player at Lyon, scoring sixty-nine goals in the process.

Nabil Fekir drops below EVENS to sign for Real Betis this summer

As short as EVENS over the current transfer window, Liverpool eventually drifted to 20/1 to sign Nabil Fekir on William Hill. They remain in the same position, but it’s been a different story for Real Betis, who’ve gone from an opening price of 6/1 with a lot of bookmakers (upon request), to now sit as short as 4/6. Sources in Spain are backing up the claims that Nabil Fekir is close to joining Real Betis, even going as far as saying that he’s agreed personal terms, so the price-cut from William Hill is more than just superstition.

If you’re not a regular viewer of Spanish football, you might rule out Real Betis as being a good move for the Frenchman, but it’s actually been known to be an exciting team to play for. They’re building every season, and they look like they could be worth watching with Giovani Lo Celso, Marc Bartra, Ryad Boudebouz, Cristian Tello, William Carvalho, Javi Garcia and Sergio Canales already in their ranks.

Reports of a move to Spain almost completely assure that Nabil Fekir is looking at a transfer to La Liga. With this being the case, bookmakers are being careful over how much they raise the odds on other Spanish sides, with second favourites Valencia at 2/1 and third favourites Sevilla at 6/1. Even links to Spanish managers see surprisingly short prices, with Unai Emery possibly considering a move for the player, as Arsenal are 12/1.
