Potential destinations for Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos has reportedly handed in a transfer request

Rumours of Sergio Ramos wanting to leave Real Madrid appeared to be something that would fade into the distance, with it assumed as being speculation rather than anything more substantial after the last few years have seen false reoccurring reports of the Real Madrid captain being unhappy at the Bernabeu.

Unlike all other recent transfer rumours, there’s been reason to believe current murmurs, as Real Madrid club president Florentino Perez confirmed that the Spanish international was looking to leave this summer. He told reporters that Sergio Ramos would be happy to leave for the good of himself and the club, but with the Chinese Super League looking like the ideal destination, Real Madrid would have to block the transfer as he could only leave for free, and it would look bad for their club captain to depart on a free transfer.

In attempting to stop any chance of setting a damaging precedent to other key players at the club, Florentino Perez has started a fight with Sergio Ramos that could see the centre-back remain at Madrid into next season, but with him reportedly handing in a transfer request, they could be forced to sell.

Real Madrid captain at 6/4 to join the Chinese Super League

A public quote from Florentino Perez stated that it was the Chinese Super League where Sergio Ramos was most interested in going, so it comes as no surprise for it to be the favoured option by the bookies, priced at 6/4 on Sky Bet. From Perez’s statement, it sounded like the thought of playing in China was one of the main reasons for Sergio Ramos wanting to leave but the inability to pay a fee would rule out any chance of it materialising.

Recent overspending habits aside, Juventus would make more sense than a move to China, as it’s where former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo went last summer. They’re seen as the second favourite at 4/1, with it being somewhere other defenders such as Kostas Manolas, Kalidou Koulibaly and Raphael Varane have been linked to since the transfer window opened.

As there’s been a lot of past links to Manchester United, it was always expected that they would appear somewhere along the way. He’s given odds as short as 5/1 to move to Old Trafford this summer, and it’d be the ideal person to bring in with Man United wanted a big summer of change, as well as the fact that they arguably need a new defender more than any other position.

Sergio Ramos Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos has been a controversial figure in football throughout his career, but it’s impossible to doubt his success.

Sevilla are the first option to be priced above 10/1, given odds of 12/1, and it would be likely considering that’s his former club. PSG are then 14/1, Any MLS Club is priced at 16/1, Manchester City is priced at 20/1, Liverpool is priced at 22/1, and both Arsenal and Newcastle are priced at 25/1, Newcastle moving into contention after reports of entertaining interest from an extremely wealthy investor.
