Salomon Rondon transfer odds: West Ham favourites to sign striker

Odds suggest Salomon Rondon could transfer to West Ham

Most expect that Salomon Rondon will leave West Brom on a permanent basis this summer, with plenty of Premier League clubs set to be interested in the striker.

The 29-year-old enjoyed an outstanding season on loan with Newcastle United last season, netting 11 goals and racking up seven assists in the Premier League. And with West Brom having failed to get back into the top flight last season, they need to sell him in order to decrease their wage bill ahead of another season in the Championship.

Despite being linked with both Newcastle and Wolves, it is West Ham who are the favourites to sign the Venezuelan. Sky Bet are offering odds of 4/6 for him to join the London outfit, who are likely to be in the market for a new striker this summer.

The Hammers are likely to sell Javier Hernandez, with the Mexican having failed to ever really impress at the London Stadium, whilst Marko Anautovic could also be on the move. The Austrian was linked with a move to China in January but it failed to materialise, however it now seems as though that he could finally transfer away from the club in this window with interest in him once again coming from Asia.

Their departures, combined with the fact that they have already sold Lucas Perez and allowed Andy Carroll to leave, would leave plenty of room for arrivals in the striking department at West Ham and Rondon fits the bill nicely. He is a player with plenty of Premier League experience, has scored goals at that level before and wouldn’t cost an extreme amount with them able to activate his £16.5 million release clause.

Added to that, Rondon is a player who is well known to West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini. The two worked together at Malaga between 2010-12 and the striker was a regular in the Chilean’s starting 11, scoring 25 league goals across the two seasons.

If they do sign the Baggies striker he would become the fourth signing of the summer window for West Ham who have already added David Martin, Roberto and Pablo Fornals to their ranks.

Could Salomon Rondon replace Marko Arnautovic at West Ham, if the Austrian moves to China?

Odds drift on Rondon transfer to Newcastle

Initially most thought that Rondon would return to Newcastle United, considering how successful his loan spell was. He became a fans favourite at St James’ Park with his strong centre forward play and it looked a mere formality that they would make the move a permanent one considering West Brom made it clear they were looking to sell.

However things have changed since the end of the season and a deal is looking more and more unlikely by the day. Rafa Benitez has now left the club after disagreeing with the owners about the clubs vision, star forward Ayoze Perez looks set to leave for Leicester and with Mike Ashley remaining in charge it seems like they will once again not be spending much this summer.

On the back of Benitez leaving the odds for the Toon to sign Rondon have gradually lengthened. At the end of June they were favourites to get him with odds as low as 2/1 available with Sky Bet, however they are now behind West Ham in the betting with a price of 5/1 with the same bookmaker.

It now seems unlikely that Rondon will head back to the North East, which will further disgruntle fans of the Magpies who were left incensed after Benitez’s departure.

Salomon Rondon will leave West Brom this season, but it seems increasingly unlikely that he will go to Newcastle.
