Sergio Aguero now 3/1 to win Premier League Golden Boot after Arsenal hat-trick

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero showed his quality once again on Sunday evening, firing his team to an important three points in their 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

The club’s record goalscorer was in fine form, netting a hat-trick for his team, including the game’s opening goal inside the first minute and was the driving force behind City moving to within two points of Liverpool ahead of their trip to West Ham on Monday night.

If Pep Guardiola’s side are to surpass Jurgen Klopp’s men at the top of the table between now and the end of the campaign, the goals of Aguero are likely to be one of the main reasons they do so.

After his treble at the weekend, Aguero now sits on 14 Premier League goals for the season so far, moving to within one of Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and two off the pace of leading scorer Mohamed Salah, who currently has 16.

Liverpool’s Salah is still the favourite to retain his crown as the Golden Boot winner at 1/1 and will be hoping to add to his tally at the London Stadium this evening. The Egyptian has enjoyed previous meetings with West Ham in the Premier League, scoring four goals in three appearances against them, including two in Liverpool’s 4-0 win in the 2012 Olympics host stadium last season.

However, Aguero has surpassed Aubameyang in the market for the Golden Boot, moving to second-favourite to win the award at 3/1 with most bookmakers. Aubameyang is currently best-priced at 7/2 with BetVictor, despite sitting just one goal short of Salah’s tally and Arsenal have just two more games against top-six opponents between now and the end of the campaign.

Aguero is currently a man in tremendous form across all competitions, having scored six goals in his last four appearances for City, and has eight goals in his last eight. The 30-year-old has scored 18 goals in all competitions this term.

At present it appears to be a three-man race for the award, with the injured Harry Kane (16/1), Eden Hazard (33/1), Marcus Rashford (66/1) and Raheem Sterling (66/1) all unlikely to be in the frame between now and the end of the season.
