Simone Inzaghi now favourite to become next Juventus manager

Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi handed the shortest price to take over from Allegri at Juventus

Last week’s official announcement confirmed that Massimiliano Allegri will leave Juventus in the summer after sealing five Serie A titles and reaching the UEFA Champions League final on two occasions. Reports of Max Allegri getting straight back into management look likely as he dropped below EVENS to replace Thomas Tuchel at PSG, but another challenge remains at stake, as Juventus look for the next man to lead The Old Lady.

Reoccurring names such as Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri and Pep Guardiola continuously move into being the shortest price to become next Juventus manager, but another man now stands ahead of every alternative, Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi priced at 13/5 to replace Allegri in Turin.

Simone Inzaghi fits the mould of a traditional Juventus manager

Based on the fact that only one non-Italian football manager has worked as head coach to Juventus since 1976, it’s to be assumed that the successor to Massimiliano Allegri will also be of Italian original. The only exception came in the 2006/07 season, where Didier Descamps won Serie B with the side, eventually leaving to find later success with Marseille in Ligue 1, as well as in leading France to a convincing win in the 2018 World Cup.

Looking at Italians in contention to become next Juventus manager, Antonio Conte is preferable through previously managing the club prior to Massimiliano Allegri, making sense of his short 4/1 price. Maurizio Sarri would be a slight risk after a mostly underwhelming term with Chelsea in the Premier League, Carlo Ancelotti is unlikely to leave Napoli after only starting his project at the club last summer, and Gian Piero Gasperini is tempting after working magic at Atalanta, but he’s now closer to join Roma as the 3/10 favourite.

Remaining options from Italy’s biggest current managers aren’t the most exciting, volatile Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti, recently-sacked Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco, former Juve man Fabio Capello, and current AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuo making up the rest of the list.

Many would see Simone Inzaghi as an understated option for Juventus despite presenting moments of excellence for Lazio, winning this season’s Coppa Italia against the odds, and defeating The Old Lady in the 2017 Supercoppa Italiana final. Sitting in the shadow of legendary AC Milan striker and brother Filippo Inzaghi hasn’t helped his case, but Simone Inzaghi has proved his worth as one of the Serie A’s best managers. The only question would be whether he’s ready for the immense step up between Lazio and Juventus, especially after he let the league slip this season, finishing eighth after clinching the Europa League in his past two attempts.

Lazio have an impressive record against Juventus under Simone Inzaghi, especially after defeating The Old Lady in the 2017 Supercoppa Italiana final.
