Thomas Meunier attracting interest from two Premier League clubs

Premier League interest in PSG defender Thomas Meunier

It looks as though Thomas Meunier could be on the move this summer, having fallen down the pecking order at Paris Saint Germain.

The Belgian right-back has been behind both Dani Alves and Thilo Kehrer in the final few months of the season, and with his contract set to expire next summer the French club may look to sell him in order to get a fee.

Meunier arrived at the Parc des Princes from Club Brugge in 2016 for just €7 million, but has been a key player for them in that time. Indeed he has helped the club win Ligue 1, the Coupe de la Ligue and Trophee des Champions on two occasions whilst also lifting the Coupe de France in 2018.

But with two players now ahead of him, it may be the time for him to leave and it is thought that plenty of clubs would be interested in signing him. Amongst those keen on the player are two clubs in the Premier League, namely Everton and Manchester United, but who are the favourites to secure his services?

Everton favourites to seal Thomas Meunier transfer

It is Everton who are the favourites with bookmakers to sign the 27-year-old this summer, with Paddy Power offering odds of 9/4 for him to seal a move to Goodison Park.

Meunier has actually been linked with a move to the Toffees for a while now, ever since he named them as a club he could join in the future in an interview back in April 2018. Speaking to Belgian news outlet RTBF, he said: “I could aim for a club like Everton.”

It is thought that Marco Silva would be willing to pay up to £25 million to secure the attacking full-backs services as he looks to strengthen his squad in order to build on their eighth place finish.

If he does join Everton then he will first have to force his way ahead of Seamus Coleman in the pecking order. The Republic of Ireland international has been a regular in the starting 11 since the 2010/11 season, but with him set to turn 31-years-old in October Silva may feel that now is the time to bring in his replacement.

Could Marco Silva attempt to sign Thomas Meunier this summer?

Could Meunier be keen on Manchester United?

The other club who appear to be interested in signing Meunier are Manchester United.

It looks set to be a big summer for the Red Devils as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer overhauls and re-shapes a squad which has seriously underachieved in the more recent campaign. Bookmakers are offering odds on plenty of players to move to Old Trafford this summer, and Meunier is one of those.

He would certainly be an astute signing for the Red Devils, they have struggled at right back of late with Ashley Young having to play there despite it not being his natural position. Meunier would offer a better defensive option whilst also maintaining an attacking threat, indeed he has scored five goals and racked up four assists for PSG this season.

And it appears though the player himself is interested in a move to Manchester. He has in the past admitted that he is a United fan, whilst in a recent interview he described them as a ‘beautiful’ club.

This could be a move that suits all parties. PSG get rid of a player who is out of contract next season for a fee, Manchester United solve their right back problem whilst Meunier moves to a club he loves. Paddy Power are currently offering odds of 11/4 for this to happen in the summer transfer window.
