World’s fastest man sprints out of the blocks with two goals on his professional debut

Record-breaking sprinter Usain Bolt has bagged his first professional goals for A-League side Central Coast Mariners.

The 32-year-old Jamaican, who retired from athletics in 2017, is now fulfilling his lifetime ambition of becoming a professional footballer with the Australian outfit.

Bolt, who has been training with the A-League side managed by Manchester-born manager Mick Mulvey since the summer, lined up to make his professional debut for the Mariners in a pre-season friendly against Macarthur South West United today.

The 23-time Gold-medalist wasted no time in leaving his mark on the game either, netting a well taken brace to round off a convincing 4-0 win for his new club.

The A-League season kicks off in just over a weeks time, with Central Coast travelling to Brisbane Roar in their curtain-raiser next Sunday. Has Bolt, who is currently still on trial with the Mariners, done enough to earn himself a professional contract? Only time will tell.

“My first start and scoring two goals, it’s a good feeling. I’m happy I could come here and show the world I’m improving. I’m keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team,” Bolt said after the game.
