WATCH: Adriano Scores On Return To Football & Wants To Make Comeback!

Brazilian stiker Adriano made a scoring return to football on Thursday! The former Inter Milan star was given a hero’s welcome at the legendary Maracana stadium as he came on as a substitute in a charity game. Fans chanted “the Emperor has returned”, referring back to the nickname he was given during the peak of his career.

He not only got on the scoresheet during the game, but set up another as well as hitting the woodwork twice! The enigmatic front-man hasn’t played in a league game since his one and only appearance for Brazilian side Atlético Paranaense, back in 2014.

Adriano was dubbed as Brazil’s next star when we made his debut for the national side at just 18, back in 2000. Now 35, his career never truly lived up to the early hype and potential. His work rate was often question during the later stages of his career in Italy, he returned to his native Brazil in 2009, but he was unable to consistency recapture the form of his early years.

He’s managed just nine league games since 2010. Most recently, he signed for American club Miami United in January, but failed to make a single league appearance.

After the game, Adriano spoke of his ambitions to return to football full-time: “I think everything is going well. Going on the right track. Everything has its time. Not only the fans, but my family are waiting for me to comeback.”
