Douglas Costa apologises for spitting incident

Juventus winger Douglas Costa has apologised for his behaviour following his sending off in his side’s 2-1 victory over Sassuolo on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was in a fiery mood all afternoon at the Allianz Stadium, being a constant offender of fouls before a disgraceful incident which saw him spit at midfielder Federico Di Francesco, leading to the use of VAR which in turn saw him shown a red card.

It tarnished what should’ve been a celebratory occasion for Juventus, as Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first two goals since moving to the club from Real Madrid in the summer. Ronaldo decided against linking up with Portugal during the international break for rest and the decision certainly appeared to pay off on Sunday.

Costa, who will surely face an extended ban from Serie A in the aftermath of his actions, took to Instagram to address his 4.7 million followers, saying: “I would like to apologise to all Juventus fans for this misleading reaction in today’s game.

“I also apologise to my team-mates, who are always with me in beautiful and bad moments. It was ugly, I am aware of it and I apologise to everyone for this.

“I make it clear that this isolated attitude does not correspond to what I have always shown in my career.”

Watch the madness below, as Costa appeared to lose complete control.
