Forget Lionel Messi’s set piece double in Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Espanyol, the free kick of the weekend undoubtedly came from the English 7th tier as Taunton Town thrashed Harrow Borough 7-0.

‘The Peacocks’, who currently sit top of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League, ran riot on home soil this Saturday, thumping 8th placed Borough to extend their lead at the top to five points.

This win, although impressive, was helped by the fact that Taunton’s opponents went down to just 8 men by half-time, following the dismissals of Mitchal Gough, George Fenton and Anthony O’Connor. Two quick fire goals from the hosts saw them take a 2-0 lead into the break, before five more goals ensured the tie ended heavily in Taunton’s favour.

In an afternoon with plenty of talking points (notably three players being sent off for the visitors), the main headline came in the form of an outstanding free kick.

Taunton defender Ed Palmer lobbed the helpless Harrow Borough goalkeeper from just inside his OWN half, doubling his side’s lead just before the interval. He will never, ever do this again.

Take a bow, son.
