There really is no inbetween with Dejan Lovren. Either he’s smashing a half-volley into the roof of the net, or is having an absolute shocker.

Unfortunately for the Croat and Liverpool supporters, it was the latter on Thursday night, as the 30-year-old defender was given the runaround by Sergio Aguero and the rest of the Manchester City attack.

Lovren switched off as Aguero opened the scoring for City at the end of the first half, while he was also guilty of keeping Raheem Sterling onside in the build-up to Leroy Sane’s winning goal.

To top it all off, Lovren then infuriated defensive partner Virgil van Dijk – who had covered his fellow centre-back on more than one occasion in the match – with a wasted long ball forward in the closing seconds of the match.

With Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold stood either side of him with far better angles to hang the ball in high to the far post for Virgil van Dijk to attack, Lovren instead chose to play a straight, flat ball that was out of the Dutchman’s reach.

It’s fair to say that it didn’t go well with van Dijk, as the video below highlights.
