Watford determined to keep hold of Doucoure

PSG are reportedly interested in signing the Hornets midfielder

Watford are determined to keep hold of star midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, despite reported interested from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old this week told French TV that he needs to leave Vicarage Road to fulfil his ambitions of playing Champions League football.

According to Sky Sports News, Watford have no intention in letting their prized asset go, but should the French champions submit a serious bid, it would be extremely difficult to get him to remain in Hertfordshire.

Doucoure joined the club from Stade Rennes for £8 million back in 2016, and since then has gone onto be a standout performer at Vicarage Road.

The Frenchman has scored 11 goals in 85 appearances (all competitions) for Watford so far, assisting a further 9 goals from his favoured position as a tough-tackling box-to-box midfielder, and is pivotal for the Hornets in their quest for a top-half finish this term.

The £39 million-rated midfielder won Watford’s Player of the Season award last term, and has been one of the main reasons behind the club’s success this season, starting all but one of their matches in the Premier League since August.

Speaking to Canal Plus this weekDoucoure said:

“I have read a lot of things about this, that PSG are looking for a midfielder.

“I’m flattered by this interest but for the time being there’s nothing concrete.

“Honestly, Watford haven’t been contacted by PSG. Naturally I said that PSG’s project interests me because I’m from the Paris region.

“But the probability honestly is very low because PSG are following a lot of players and I’m not their priority, that’s for sure. But if there’s a possibility, of course we’ll look at it.”

Doucoure is currently priced at 3/1 to join PSG before the January window closes with UniBet.
