Wilfried Zaha receives racist abuse and death threats

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha has revealed that he and his family were the target of both racist abuse and death threats in the aftermath of his side’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the weekend.

The Ivorian international played a key role for the Eagles as he won a late penalty, allowing Luka Milivojevic to fire home his second spot kick of the game that ended the Gunners 11-match winning streak.

Zaha has been public in his calls for protection from referees in recent weeks, with the spotlight now firmly on him and his apparent antics, making him an obvious target for opposing supporters.

It boiled over to the point where both the 26-year-old and his family were sent racial abuse and threats, with Zaha taking to Instagram to defend himself.

He wrote: “For all the people taking it one step further and being racist and wishing death on my family I wish you and your families the best too x p.s my life is still very good despite your hate.”

The abuse comes despite the fact that Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, who was the man guilty of bringing Zaha down in the box, admitting that the referee had made the right decision.
