According to the Athletic Manchester United have held talks with Atletico Madrid and England right-back Kieran Trippier. The 30-year-old has been a regular for Atleti since leaving Tottenham Hotspur at the start of last season, playing every minute in La Liga this campaign under Diego Simeone’s management, but could be tempted by a move back to his hometown of Manchester.
With United right on the tail of Liverpool who are top of the league, it is obvious that they are lacking depth at right-back, as shown in their fixture at Leicester City on boxing day, where centre backs Victor Lindelof and Axel Tuanzebe were forced to play out of position due to the absences of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side lacks an attacking threat down the right-wing and often struggle for width, meaning that Trippier would be ideal as he is more of a wing-back than former Crystal Palace man Wan-Bissaka. So far this season the former Spurs man has four assists in 13 La Liga appearances, whilst Wan Bissaka has the same amount in 47 matches for United in the Premier League since the start of last season.
