Alexandre Lacazette Transfer News & Odds

During his time in North London, Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has failed to impress and there have been constant questions in the media over Arsenal’s decision to spend £46m on bringing the forward to the Premier League.

Considering it was such a large fee at the time for a striker, there were expectations of Lacazette scoring many goals and helping the Gunners to trophies, but Lacazette has never scored more than 15 league goals in a season for Arsenal and has never found the back of the net more than 18 times in all competitions in a season, with the only silverware he has lifted since leaving Lyon being the FA Cup.

The 30-year-old’s poor form this season, in conjunction with his contract expiring in the summer and reports in the media that he has been in talks with a number of clubs about a transfer, we take a look at the clubs who could try to sign him.

Lyon Odds: 2/1

Lacazette has been heavily linked with a move back to his boyhood club, and it’s no surprise why. His best form came at the club - could a move back there reinvigorate the Frenchman’s career?

In the 2016/17 season, Lacazette scored a stunning 37 goals in all competitions for Les Gones, with 28 of those goals coming in the league alone. His goals helped the club to the semi-finals of the Europa League and to a fourth-place league finish, with the striker unfortunate to miss out on the top scorer award to PSG’s Edinson Cavani.

The season prior, he managed to hit 21 in the league, also scoring 27 in 2014/15, and 15 in the league the season before that. It is clear that the striker is comfortable leading the line for Lyon in the French league, which is a league that plays more to the strengths of his game, as opposed to the fast-paced, physical nature of the English game.

A return to the Groupama Stadium for Lacazette could also be beneficial for manager Peter Bosz, with the option to play Lacazette in a two-man strike team with Moussa Dembele a potential option. With Dembele, a relatively reliable goalscorer for Lyon (with 16 this season, 16 in 2019/20 and 15 the season before that), added goals from Lacazette could help the French club further up the league table and in Europe.

And for these reasons, a transfer back to Lyon for Alexandre Lacazette is likely, with the current odds of it happening at 2/1 - click on the link to claim this bet in your bet slip!

Lille Odds: 7/1

A move to 2021 Ligue 1 champions Lille is also an option for Lacazette, with the club likely to be looking for a striker in the summer transfer window.

Despite helping the club to become surprise Ligue 1 champions in 2021, Turkish forward Burak Yilmaz is now 36-years-old, and so the club may deem the forward as an unnecessary player in the frontline, with his pace and mobility at his age likely to be of concern. As a result, and with his contract expiring in June anyway, the club may look to move Yilmaz on in the summer and bring in a replacement.

Lacazette, at 30 years of age, is six years younger than Yilmaz and still has many years of his career left, so could be a better alternative for the club going forward than the Turk. And with Lacazette’s fantastic goalscoring record in Ligue 1, Les Dogues may look to him to supplement their current forwards, who are not on the greatest of form. Jonathan David is the club’s current top goalscorer with 13, with Yilmaz, Jonathan Ikone, Timothy Weah and Jonathan Bamba combined on a paltry 6 goals.

The odds of this deal occurring are currently at 7/1.

Newcastle United Odds: 7/1

Much-improved Newcastle United will be on the hunt for a striker in the summer, with their current options in the centre-forward department not exactly setting the world alight.

£25m man Chris Wood, signed from Burnley in January, has scored just two goals since joining the Magpies. Dwight Gayle has only made seven appearances this season, all of them from the bench. He is clearly not in favour at St James Park, and although his contract runs until 2024, the club may look to shift him on this summer as part of their rebuild.

But in Callum Wilson, Newcastle have a good striker. However, the issue with Wilson is that he is very injury-prone. The forward has suffered not one, but two cruciate ligament ruptures in his career, along with multiple hamstring injuries as well. His latest, a calf injury, has meant that he has had to miss 124 days, or 18 games, this season. So, therefore, the club may look to snap up Lacazette, who can play up front if Wilson was to be injured again.

At first Lacazette may look like an odd choice for the club, but many of their recent signings were regarded with disdain when first signed but have gone to impress, such as Dan Burn and Matt Targett. Lacazette could do the same.

The odds of Lacazette joining Newcastle are at 7/1.

West Ham Odds: 8/1

West Ham United are in a very good place right now, with a place in the semi-finals of the Europa League and they are currently in the battle for European football in the Premier League, where they currently sit seventh in the table. And whatever happens from now until the end of the season, it is likely that they will be looking to improve their squad in the summer window.

With winger Andriy Yarmolenko’s contract expiring in the summer and with no reports that an extension has been offered, it is possible that the 32-year-old may leave. And to replace him, the Hammers could look to bring in Lacazette. And although likely to not be a starter at the London Stadium, the Frenchman could still serve a purpose in David Moyes’ team, as he could be a useful option off the bench if the Hammers are having a tough time breaking down a team.

Lacazette offers something different to the likes of the skilful Said Benrahma or the fast and direct Jarrod Bowen, with his hold-up play an asset. And with the Frenchman in the final year of his contract, West Ham would not have to pay a transfer fee, which is likely to appeal to club executives - the money that they would likely have spent on Lacazette otherwise can instead be spent on improving another area of the team.

Therefore, a move to West Ham for Lacazette can’t be ruled out, with this deal currently at 8/1 odds - click on the link to claim this bet in your bet slip!

Marseille Odds: 10/1

Could another Arsenal player make the move to Marseille? With midfielder Matteo Guendouzi on loan at the club and that deal likely to be made permanent, could Lacazette also join him?

Marseille have struggled for goals at times this season, with just three players in their squad breaking the 10-goal mark. Only one of those three was a striker, with the on-loan Arkadiusz Milik bagging 20 in all competitions. And with this impressive form, his parent club Napoli may decide to keep him next season instead of loaning him out. So, Marseille will need a striker who can score many goals next season, and Lacazette could be the solution to their problems in that department.

Fellow strikers Cedric Bakambu and Bamba Dieng have scored three and seven goals respectively this season, so the club may be looking to buy someone more clinical, and with Lacazette’s history in Ligue 1, he may be the player that Les Olympiens target. Marseille’s only other players with 10+ goals this season are talisman Dimitri Payet with 16, and on-loan Roma winger Cengiz Under with 12. As Under is on loan, due to his impressive performances he may not be loaned out next season, and Payet should not have to shoulder the goalscoring burden alone, so a move for Lacazette does make sense.

The current odds of this move happening are at 10/1.
