Chelsea’s blockbuster January transfer window has left The Blues with a potential financial issue. With the threat of Financial Fair Play looming, Chelsea may need more than a couple of departures this summer in order to balance the books.

Despite Conor Gallagher’s impressive breakout season in the Premier League at Crystal Palace, he’s been unable to find consistent starts in this particularly turbulent season at Chelsea.

However, he’s got a number of notable names in the Premier League reportedly in the chase for his signature to take him away from Stamford Bridge.

After reportedly dropping out of the race for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Liverpool has seemingly turned their sights to Chelsea’s Gallagher. With Klopp having stated Gallagher is a “very, very good player” when asked about him, a move north to Liverpool could be likely for Gallagher.

With an ageing and injury-prone midfield, an injection of youth from Gallagher could be the remedy Liverpool and Klopp are looking for. Thiago was the last midfield acquisition all the way back in 2020, so new blood is definitely a priority, especially in order to play the high-pressing football Klopp wants to play.

Gallagher’s experience in the Premier League and on the international stage could replace the likes of James Milner or give cover for players like Jordan Henderson and Thiago. Though Gallagher is contracted at Chelsea until 2025, the potential FFP claims, an early exit to Liverpool is a definite possibility.

Newcastle’s high-flying 2022/23 season has led to a push to strengthen the roster for a bigger step up next season, perhaps a title challenge.

The Magpies have had previous interest in Gallagher, having enquired into the Englishman in the January transfer window with talks and potential bids amounting to nothing before the deadline.

The addition of Gallagher could add some youthful depth to Eddie Howe’s midfield, linking up with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock. With the potential of Champions League football, the need for depth is even more pertinent with the additional load of midweek games.

Chelsea are likely to value Gallagher at £30 million this summer, but Newcastle may push for a loan-to-buy deal. However, due to the FFP constraints, Chelsea may prefer a permanent sale.

Even with the threat of potential relegation, Everton are looking to spend big on a new midfielder in the summer, with Gallagher being the one most linked with The Toffees. Everton were also in the running to sign Gallagher in the January transfer window but talks once again broke down before a sale could go through.

Everton were reportedly ready to pay £40 million plus £5 million in add-ons in January and Chelsea could remain at that asking price in the summer. This may be a steep price for The Toffees now after a potential FFP breach themselves.

Sean Dyche’s side currently sit 18th in the Premier League and face a tough battle for Gallagher’s signature if they don’t secure safety this season. Gallagher has played nearly three seasons of Premier League football and is unlikely to move for Championship football.

Everton are priced at 5/1 to sign Gallagher from Chelsea.

As the hosts of Gallagher for the 2021/22 Premier League season, Crystal Palace seemingly want to bring the midfielder back to Selhurst Park.

After Palace was denied the chance to re-sign Gallagher after his successful loan spell with The Eagles, Gallagher may now make the permanent move to South London. In his first spell at Palace, Gallagher made 34 appearances and scored eight goals, helping The Eagles to a 12th-place finish and an FA Cup Semi-final.

Gallagher is still linked to Palace despite the departure of Patrick Viera who he played his football under at the club. A move to Palace may also lead to a return to consistent appearances, as this season at Chelsea, Gallagher has averaged only 41 minutes per appearance.

Another Premier League club looking to sign Gallagher this summer is West Ham. If making a move to East London, Gallagher may link up with England teammate Declan Rice in David Moyes’ midfield.

West Ham seemingly have their midfield as their top priority with The Hammers touted to target either Gallagher or out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips. Though no formal enquiries have been made as of yet, a move to West Ham could be a good move for either player as they both look to get consistent playing time.

Much like Everton, West Ham’s bid for Gallagher may hinge on their Premier League survival. The Hammers currently sit in 14th, six points above the relegation zone and have a good shot of survival and therefore are highly likely to be in the race for Gallagher’s signature this summer.
