Frenkie de Jong Transfer News & Odds

According to reports from Spain, Barcelona are looking to move Frenkie de Jong on for around £60m, as they look to further integrate the likes of Pedri, Gavi and Nico into their first team, whilst saving around £354,000 per week, with the Dutchman being the highest-paid player at the Nou Camp.

De Jong joined Barca in the summer of 2019 after Ajax’s impressive run to the Champions League semi-final for a fee of around £63m, having been linked with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG.

In his time at the Nou Camp, the 25-year-old has just one major honour to his name, with that being the 2020/21 Copa del Rey, following a thumping 4-0 victory in the final over Athletic Bilbao, where the 25-year-old was instrumental, as he scored a goal and created two assists.

Manchester United Odds: 5/4

This has been the longest transfer saga of the summer window, with a mixture of circumstances holding up what looked like an inevitable deal in May when Gerard Romero said the deal was "95% done".

United have seemingly placed all of their eggs into one basket in order to sign de Jong, with Erik ten Hag desperate to mould his side around the Barcelona man's passing and dribbling attributes.

With Barcelona currently being unable to register the likes of Jules Kounde for their opening league match against Rayo Vallecano, there is no doubt that they must sell the 25-year-old, however, his £17m worth of owed wages has held the deal up, creating some uncertainty, although the bookmakers have United down as favourites to get their man.

According to Alex Crook of TalkSport, de Jong could sign for United before their crunch match against Liverpool on Monday.

To Stay at Barcelona Odds: 6/4

De Jong is priced at 6/4 to stay at Barcelona, with the Dutchman frequently stating that the Nou Camp side is the club of his dreams.

The £17m owed in deferred wages seems to be a huge issue for Barcelona in their efforts to shift the Dutchman, on top of the fact that his family are reported to be settled in the city of Barcelona itself.

With several financial levers being triggered, perhaps the sales of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Memphis Depay could ease the Catalonian club's financial woes, with both Chelsea and Juventus said to be heavily interested in the latter two mentioned players.

Chelsea Odds: 5/2

Chelsea have also made their interest in Frenkie de Jong well known, as Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly look to make further improvements to what is already a strong midfield.

The Stamford Bridge club have flexed their muscles in the summer transfer window already, signing the likes of Kalidou Koulibaliy, Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella. Could de Jong be their fourth signing? After all, it seems as though Chelsea are chasing every other club's targets.

With reports that the Blues could be willing to go the extra mile to get de Jong, as well as reports emerging that the Dutchman wants to play in Champions League football, Chelsea are priced at 5/2 by the bookmakers to sign the 25-year-old.
