Jurgen Klopp has signed some fantastic midfield signing during his tenure at Liverpool, such as Thiago Alcantara for £25m or Fabinho's £43m move from Monaco, the latter being one the biggest reasons for the Reds' many successes over the past years. The tough-tackling Brazilian's all-action midfield displays have made it difficult for most sides to breach Liverpool's midfield, and he is the reason Liverpool concede so few chances, and as a result, so few goals.
Liverpool's interest in Kalvin Phillips might be because they see him as an heir to Fabinho, and so could be looking to sign him.
Veteran James Milner is currently 36-years-old, and despite still being a reliable performer, the club hierarchy may be looking to move him on. Milner's next move is extremely likely be a transfer back to his boyhood club Leeds, where he would presumably slot into Kalvin Phillips' vacant position. It is, therefore, a transfer that would work for all parties. With Jordan Henderson also getting on in age, Phillips may also be looked at as a replacement for him.
Naby Keita has failed to really settle on Merseyside, with inconsistent performances and persistent injury problems hampering the Guinean, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a move away after falling out of favour at Jurgen Klopp.
Up-and-coming attacking midfielder Curtis Jones would be a replacement for Chamberlain, and Phillips would be a great player to replace Keita's blend of quality in defence and attacking build-up. A transfer for Phillips would solve a problem position for Liverpool, and any departures would be filled by existing members of the squad.
And for the above reasoning, Phillips to transfer to Liverpool is currently odds on at 8/1.
