Brighton & Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk could be set to leave the AMEX this summer, with Leicester City reportedly considering trying to sign him.
The 27-year-old has been one of the Seagulls' stand out performers since they were promoted to the Premier League in 2017, playing in 36 of their 38 fixtures in the season just gone. He has formed an excellent partnership at centre-back with Irishman Shane Duffy, and even managed to catch the eye of Gareth Southgate with his solid displays earning him a first England cap in October 2018.
His performances have also reportedly impressed Brendan Rodgers too, and he could look to sign the centre-half should the Foxes lose Harry Maguire who is attracting the interest of Manchester United whilst Manchester City are also thought to be keen. Bookmakers believe that it is a deal that could happen too, with BetVictor offering odds as short as 5/4 for Dunk to move to the King Power Stadium this summer.
If they are to press ahead with the signing, Leicester would probably have to break their record transfer. Dunk signed a new five-year contract with the club only nine months ago, and that means that Brighton are likely to want upwards of £30 million if they are to let him move on.
Local reports suggesting Dunk will stay at Brighton
Despite the odds however, local newspaper The Argus believes that Dunk is still more likely to remain at the AMEX next season. They have said that a well-placed source close to the club believes that there is a "95% chance" that Dunk will stay on the south coast and thus continue as their captain for the 2019/20 campaign.
Whilst it is believed that they are interested in signing Portsmouth centre-back Matt Clarke, a move which added fuel to the fire in terms of the rumours for Dunk leaving, he would not be coming in to replace the 27-year-old. Instead it is thought that he would replace Leon Balogun, who may leave to get more minutes elsewhere.
He is a homegrown player for Albion having come through their academy so will have an obvious affinity for the club too, which may also persuade him to stay even if the Foxes do come in with a bid.
It will be an interesting season for Brighton this season, with Graham Potter now in charge after the dismissal of Chris Hughton. The Irishman did an excellent job in keeping the club up but they now want to take the next step and move up the table. If Potter is to do that, he will need to keep hold of key players and Dunk is certainly one of them.
