Phil Jones Next Club Odds

Phil Jones Manchester United

Phil Jones Overview

So far this season Manchester United centre back Phil Jones is yet to play a single minute for the club, having been ruled out till the new year with a knee injury.

Jones was initially put on a rehabilitation programme for the knee injury he suffered towards the end of last season, as it meant that the former Blackburn Rovers centre-back could play for any club that was willing to sign him in the summer, but, having failed to find a move in the last transfer window, United opted to force the 28-year-old into having an operation, meaning that he would be fully fit for any suitors in January. Jones has not been registered for any of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squads this season and is deemed as surplus to requirements by the Old Trafford club.

Derby County Odds

Wayne Rooney’s Derby County are the favourites to sign Phil Jones at 5/2. This will more likely be on loan, as the Manchester United man’s wage demands are likely to be too high, as Jones currently earns £120,000 per week at Old Trafford.

Obviously, there is the United connection, as Derby manager, Rooney played six seasons alongside Jones at Old Trafford between 2011 and 2017, so he does know of the former Blackburn centre back’s ability and personality to be able to fit into his squad. The Rams have conceded 23 goals in 20 league games so far this season, something Rooney will be hoping to see his side improve on if they are to push up the league table.

Everton Odds

Everton are a team that may surprise a few, but in the current financial climate, it would not be unfeasible for the Toffees’ to go for Jones, as he would be a cheaper option if he was to leave for a fee, as Manchester United look desperate to shift the 28-year-old off their wage bill. However, having signed Ben Godfrey in the summer, meaning that the Goodison Park outfit now have four centre backs on their books, it looks unlikely that Jones will follow the footsteps of the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, who left United for Everton back in January 2017 for more first-team football, hence why this move Is priced at 6/1. West Bromwich Albion Odds

West Brom come in at a good price of 7/1. This move is probably more likely than a move to Everton for the Manchester United centre back, as the Baggies are managed by his former manager at Blackburn Rovers, Sam Allardyce.

Allardyce gave Jones his Premier League debut in the second half of the 2009/10 season for Rovers and following some impressive displays under the former Bolton manager and his predecessor Steve Kean, the 28-year-old earned himself a move to Old Trafford. At present West Brom have the worst defence in the division, having conceded 30 goals in 15 games, and will be looking to rectify this instantly upon his recent arrival. Jones fits the mould that Allardyce and West Brom usually go for, with this deal potentially being similar to that which saw Jonny Evans leave Old Trafford for The Hawthorns back in the summer of 2015.

Middlesbrough Odds

Middlesbrough are priced at 8/1 to sign Jones, but similarly to Derby, this would probably be on loan due to the wage demands that the centre back could have in order to drop down a division. Neil Warnock is known for defensively solid sides which could be of benefit to the Manchester United man, but without any form of connections to the club and with Boro being in the Championship the odds of 8/1 are more than justifiable.

Newcastle United Odds

Newcastle also have the same odds as Middlesbrough to sign the Preston born centre back. Steve Bruce has previous in signing former Manchester United players, as back in 2011 he took both Wes Brown and John O’Shea to Sunderland when he managed the Black Cats, following recommendations from Sir Alex Ferguson, who also managed Jones for two seasons at United.

Bruce’s team tend to line-up in a 5-4-1 formation and only have four natural centre-backs to cover across the three that they need, signing Jones would give the Toon Army more breathing room in terms of options in central defence, which could come of use as there have been a number of notable absences this season through injury and illness in their squad this season. Jones is priced at 8/1 to move to St James’ Park. <br/>
